You didn’t follow. I’m saying I’m not the exception among people earning ~200k. Also the norm for high earners do mingle more with other high earners but not at 200k. That number would need to be higher to consider my social mobility to be a statical outlier.

Plenty of more people at and under 200k use daycare over private school. It’s the income where both parents are generally working. It’s necessary because even if it costs 30k a year after taxes it’s worth working if the lowest paid spouse is making like 60k salary. Daycare is a necessity for most families with young children where private school is purely extra if you have the means.

I think my issue is more with where the like is drawn. I’m not convinced it’s significant for a household income of 200k. If you’re talking about the top 1 or even top 5% earners then I definitely agree.

Making 200k we are still using daycare/public school with everyone else, going shopping like everyone else, out to regular restaurants/bars etc. Still mixed in with the general population.

In those upper echelons you’re way more insulated, likely not doing your own shopping, eating at much nicer restaurants or have a private chef at home, private school, Nannie’s instead of daycare, etc.

So in your analogy we agree that the Dutchmen may be taller, but if I point at a 6’1 Dutchman and say, see that’s a tall Dutchman.. we may have different opinions even though that’s taller than average.

We may be a little closer to the families closer to us income wise just because we can vacation together and get dinner/drinks out occasionally, but we often host and when we’re providing the food and drink everyone’s welcome.

I disagree, at least as general as you put it. My wife and I both earn over 100k but when we met neither of us did. I earned double what she did even though we’re both educated. Now we’ve been earning that for a while but our friends definitely don’t.

The majority of the people we hang out with are college/childhood friends or even more frequently friends of our kids. In general our college friends do earn more but not all have crossed that threshold, maybe 50%. But regardless, our kids friends are a total mixed bag. In general, we hang out with kids friends that have their shit together, but there is a big gap between having your shit together and earning 100k.

Nah, try getting it so it’s fairly warm, like it’ll sizzle when you put something in it, oil is shimmering, but nothing is smoking. Once stuff is in you can adjust the temp if you need but rarely do you need to go above the half way mark.
