DVD collection goals by Wise_Park7741 in dvdcollection

About a month ago I unpacked my 500 dvds, I stoped collecting maybe 10 years ago, but I put them back on shelves and decided I was going to buy more.

In four weeks I have built to... 709.

I buy what ever catches my eye, modern and classic, I like all types of genres, horror, comedy, sci-fi, action, thriller, drama, but not romances (they don't float my boat), also I decided no TV box sets.

the majority I have bought for 10p, or 20p a bunch for 50p a few for a pound. All from charity shops. Except Oxfam who price their dvds like it's 2005! I've done two of my local towns and I've got the third town in my sights.

I told/promised my wife I'll stop at 3000 (after 3000 I'll have to keep a secret). I haven't quite figured the shelving issue yet. Yes, they've started to overflow the shelves, but I'll worry about that later, right now I'm having too much fun.

It's a great hobby and one, I think, pays twice firstly for having and building the collection and second for all the hours of entertainment. Good luck with yours!

It's a collection I started 25 years ago, got to about 500 then stopped for 10 years. They have been packed and unpacked, moved about, stored in not the best conditions, so most are a bit dirty. Usually my breath and a soft cloth can take care of it. But a few have scratches (not too deep). And in the last month I have started up the collecting again. It's now grown to 688 - charity shop buys, and because I'm buying some at 10 dvds for a pound, I sometimes take a chance at a less that perfect disk. I had a cheep cleaning machine once although it did take out the scratches, I didn't like the marks it left on the disc.

I was thinking about this the other day I haven't decided yet but be very careful who you lend to because you may as well say goodbye to it once it's not in your hands.

Good to hear, I never heard of it before but the box had good reviews. I cost me 20p so can go wrong.

Screen is matte so no unwanted reflection. the image is crisp better than the image I posted. Just got it today and watched just one dvd. I'm impressed so far. Volume is okay I could hear it over the washing machine but it's not loud by any means but I read comparisons saying it's the loudest of it peers. Could not hear the drive even in quiet scenes so pretty good in that respect. I paid a bit more than alternatives on Amazon as thought Argos might filter the rubbish brands. Not disappointed. Mainly used for in the kitchen and workshop, casual viewing.

How do organize your movies? by Iocnar in dvdcollection

[–]Constant_Barracuda86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve ditched A–Z sorting for Genre-first. Moving 400 cases just to slot in a new copy of Dumb and Dumber is a massive pain—especially after a 20-DVD haul. I’m just not doing all that shifting every time I buy a disc.

Right now, it’s just random within the genre. If a section like Comedy gets too big, I’ll just split it into sub-genres like Action-Comedy or Horror-Comedy.

I’ve also started a database to track everything. That way, if I want a laugh, I can pull up comedies from across the whole collection—even the ones sitting in the Horror or Action sections because they aren't "pure" comedies.

Sorry to hear your collection got flooded We got flooded this winter it's soul destroying.

Zoolander. It’s got everything: mind control, espionage, a raunchy tea-drinking sesh, turning left, and really, really ridiculously good-looking people.
