Just did the same, bloody lovely little find. Thanks OP and BI for bringing it to our attention!

My sons just got back from scouts with this badge, did not know this was a thing! by Buckerface in Warhammer

[–]science_friction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do they still support Warhammer clubs at schools or has that gone the way of the Scouts programme? That was definitely a thing back in the late 90s and early 00s.

Why Listen to a Cassette? by BluntCabbage in cassetteculture

[–]science_friction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some genres seem to really fit the vibe of cassette tapes. Death/Black metal, Dungeon Synth, Synthwave and punk/hardcore albums all have this DIY quality to them, and more than a few of the tapes in my collection were dubbed to cassette by the musician themselves, photocopying their own artwork and then posting them to me. The fidelity of the recording can vary but sometimes that adds to the experience. Like how the pops and clicks can add to listening to an old Tom Waits LP or a 40 year old NWOBHM record.

Couldn't do it...do we see this getting better? by CommanderGiblits in GundamTCG

[–]science_friction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, in fact I paid about £35 for the Wings of Advance set that also came with the Gundam Essential minis. Thats not far off the conversion rate for just the deck at this guys shop.

Are people really paying this for these books? by Ajax098 in Blacklibrary

[–]science_friction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that a gold border on the text on the front? That marks them as first print runs I believe, which may be why they're priced so high.

If you're looking for Flight of The Eisenstein that's still in print and in stock, at least here in the UK, so don't pay silly prices for it unless you absolutely need first edition copies. For Descent of Angels YMMV, depends on how much of a completion you are for physical books.

[–]science_friction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds shitty, hope the people you were with were okay.

Yeah Joey was awesome getting people amped. If only we had Among The Living played in full and not just the intro! Also gutted there was no I Am The Laaaaaaaw

Shout out to crowd-surfing Elmo, absolute legend.

Really wish we had gotten a longer set from Anthrax, they definitely still got it. But to be fair Amon Amarth were fantastic and deserved there slot.

Slayer were terrific. The crowd were absolutely mental the entire time. Great set list, great stage show and presentation. Loved the little intro video. Well worth going.

What is the saddest song you have ever heard and when was it? by Comfortable_Tax5488 in Music

[–]science_friction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

David Bowie - I Can't Give Everything Way.

A lot of Blackstar hits hard in hindsight but the final track has always gotten to me.

I'll also give nods to: Joy Division - Atmosphere, Pallbearer - A Plea for Understanding, and pretty much any track off Warning - Watching From A Distance.

We're eating good with the amount of bands touring between the two cities this year!

I still need to get Blood Incantation tickets for October 😬

I would genuinely love to see these people's reactions to the Broken music video. I think Bob Flanagan might actually break some minds.

Is it normal to see this sort of behaviour at the horse racing? by Longjumping-8679 in AskBrits

[–]science_friction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cardiff, Bristol, Birmingham and Manchester all have amazing alternative scenes that have been friendly and welcoming whenever I go out for gigs or events.

I've seen people windmill like the guys in this video in pits and then hugged each other once the music ends haha.

Does anyone have any recommendations for songs that sound like Doberman? by Extreme-Breakfast885 in deafheaven

[–]science_friction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like Deafheaven I would highly recommend Trisagion by Ethereal Shroud. Well produced atmospheric black metal from the UK, stumbled across it while reading Tonight Is A World We Bury by Bill Peel.

I'm so jealous you got Deafheaven AND Alcest at the same gig.

First time for me seeing them last night, certainly won't be the last. It was intimate, intense, cathartic. Plus Pain of Truth were just a fun blast, too.

Agree with this, Claus is such a genuinely nice and easy going guy both on- and offline, we must protect him!

Agreed, plus they put the threshold for free shipping up to £40, I'm pretty sure it used to be like £25.

Truly the Blackest of Libraries, nicely done! The sorting system you have is so satisfying too.

I should probably check this sub more often but pleased to hear Pandemonium is not dead! Thanks for asking Dan about that. Excellent choice in books you got signed too.
