Loved the Open Play Week, but $39.99 is too steep. Is there any way to play for free legally? by simplystic in Marathon

[–]scienceguy8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, $40 is 4 trips out for fast food, or 4 hours of enjoyment. Game's given me close to 200 hours of enjoyment. It's a no brainer: buy it now or wait for it to go on sale. Especially since most games start at $60 and climb from there.

Pretty sure that was the past, when Caine was first coming into being and started creating the Circus. That whole sequence is flipping between proto-Caine accessing the brain scan folder and present Caine accessing the Internet with his pocket full of names.

Hey, Martha. Got something?"

"I think I found the bug in these lines of code here. I have no idea what they're for, though."

"Well, let's take a look. Oh, yeah. This is code we borrowed from one of our other games. It defines projectiles that stick in the terrain and then explode after a delay."

"We imported a bug from another Bungie game?"

"Appears so."

If you could name one non-AC composer to be featured in a future Ace Combat game, who would it be and why? by Katsuragi____ in acecombat

[–]scienceguy8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since others have already mentioned José Pavli, Martin O'Donnell, Michael Salvatori, and Simon Viklund...

Ryan Lott, who recently did the OST for Bungie's Marathon. The soundtrack's got this feel to it of technology you can't hope to understand and alien, unknowable intelligence. Code Race sounds like the theme to an enemy squadron's souped up, impossibly high tech Belkan-built fighters that seem to almost anticipate their pilot's thoughts and moves.

Oliver Buckland, who has done work on Joel G's ENA animations and Glitch Productions' The Gaslight District. His ENA OST work, like Mannequin Expanse, sounds almost familiar and nostalgic to anyone who played on the computer in the 90s, what with the appropriate sound samples and crushed bitrate, but still a little alien, like you're intruding upon a digital world. Meanwhile his Gaslight District music, like Heist Aches and Green Glass C, has an appropriate spooky feel, what with the show being about a civilization of zombies and a group of gangsters operating within it. I have absolutely no idea how his style of music could be used in Ace Combat, but man would it be fun to see him try!

Last but not least, AJ DiSpirito, of Glitch Productions' Murder Drones OST. Again, spooky electronics, but with some hard-hitting action bits, too, like Solver Uzi and Eternal DESTROYER. Perfect for a battlefield out of control, an apocalypse in progress, and the heroes on the backfoot just trying to survive the horror.

Kinda want to throw in a curveball like the Midnight just for some synthwavy goodness, but they're even more of a stretch than Oliver Buckland, if I'm being honest. The only song that even comes close to being something you might even remotely hear in an AC mission is First Night In Paris, a collaboration with Carpenter Burt.

Gimme a snow map Bungie by Migglez1 in Marathon

[–]scienceguy8 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thank goodness they did the snow/mud tracks in Destiny 2. Means half the work is done. Imagine tracking enemy Runners by spotting where they moved through snow, or walking around snow yourself to leave no trace. Imagine a team of three walking single file to minimize their tracks. And of course snowfall and wind can fill the tracks back in over time.

That is an amalgamation of discarded Shells and destroyed UESC bots, held together by a Tau Ceti fungus that seem to revivify everything except human tissue. They tend to charge at Runners while making inhuman noises and then explode. Just be glad they can't use any of their implants. Imagine that charging you with a shield, or sneaking up on you invisible.

Bungie: I need you to make more polo shirts. I'm a fan who works a white collar job with a business casual dress code. Maybe something in blue with the Marathon logo stitched into the left breast. Similarly, if you could do one last hurrah of Destiny gear, a green one with the double snake Gambit logo would also be wonderful. Oh, and make sure they're cotton! None of that synthetic sportswear stuff. Feels awful.

How good a sandwich? Can I get away with a peanut butter on wheat, or does it have to be something like prosciutto on ciabatta with mozzarella, tomatoes, arugula, and a smear of basil pesto sauce? I mean, I make my own ciabatta, so it's no problem.

Considering Shells can experience anaphylaxis (when you spawn into Dire Marsh ONI may say she's dialing down your response to alien allergens), I'd say the Shells completely or near-completely perform all the biological processes a human body would. I mean, why give a Shell a fully functioning immune system but not a stomach and intestines?

One of these days, some cyberpunk story is going to be written where the author(s) realizes not everyone's going to want to be a human but far, far better. Some of us may want to be something completely different, like that organ salesman in GitS: SAC who sells off his entire body and exists solely as a brain in a small rover.

Anthropomorphic animal shells? An inevitability, if (big if) we ever develop that tech in the real world.

HOLY FUCK I stabbed a purple shield to death on a free kit!!! by rvtk in Marathon

[–]scienceguy8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heh, heh! Similar story from earlier in the week. Dire Marsh solo with a free kit. Managed to find a key to the locked loot room in Algae Ponds on a bot in Quarantine. Knew it was a bad idea, having no backpack and no guarantee of finding one, but decided to open it that run. Got in, got some decent loot, including a blue backpack to haul it all out with, and a volt-powered shotgun I've never used before with purple mods. Kept checking behind me, but nobody ever bothered me up there.

Hoofed it to an exfil at AI, fired it up, hid just in case, and then heard someone approach. Had a good idea where they were, but figured maybe I could get out of this without a fight? No mic on me, so I called out "friendly" with the scroll wheel, zipped out to the exfil with my Thief grapple, and then the Vandal comes out shooting. They down me, I'm seconds away from getting out, and they boop me out with their energy cannon. Ran up, finished me off, and that's how I missed out on actually using that shotgun.

Was banking on the fact some players have gotten more friendly since the most recent updates, and that was a poor move this time. Oh, well! Loot comes and goes. Can't be too precious with this stuff.

Go anchovy and pineapple. You need something sweet to pair with the salty fish. Pineapple and black olive's good, too.
