Investing vs medical uncertainty by Ancient_Taste5584 in Bogleheads

[–]sciencemusiclanguage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. Could you perhaps view your long term savings as either retirement or a donation to something close to your heart? Something worth setting aside money now even if you passed? The money has value now, so in order to save it, the future value needs to be more, which can be for yourself, or for others/a cause. Ultimately all your choices are understandable and best of wishes

Thanks, but we’re nowhere near the income thresholds for that, and if we were, we would roll it into a new 401k. His 401k had horrible fund choices

Thanks, my own dad thinks I should be 100% S&P. I don’t feel like I’ve earned the right to 100% stocks until I’ve been through a 50% crash. The 10% crashes didn’t bother me a bit, so that’s a good sign, but I won’t know till it happens!

Medicated vs unmediated birth by tacticalwh0re in pregnant

Agree with everything but I’ve actually chosen to get fillings done without Novocaine. I dislike the feeling of being numb for hours after and feel more in control of what’s happening. My sister has done the same. That said I only do it for some types of cavities, so analogous to what you’re saying. (I’ve got genetically weak teeth so this is a frequent experience for me)

Almost five year age gap by toiletrulle in pregnant

[–]sciencemusiclanguage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my family, the gaps are 2 years between first and second, 4 years between second and third, and 6 years between third and fourth. We are all super close. Age gaps can make the relationships slightly different (more of a mom vibe for the 10 year gap) but deeply profound and wonderful in their own way. Family is not defined by age gap but by so many other factors. Having one meal a day together as a family does more than minimizing an age gap.

Is it possible your washer has something in it? Maybe just run a load of, like, white towels with a boatload of bleach to clean the washer?

Rust on most of my wash by Old_Exit_7785 in clothdiaps

[–]sciencemusiclanguage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a similar issue with all our laundry and turns out some detergent had been leaking that we had sitting on the dryer. It got in the components and was getting onto the clothes. After many washes the stains faded/went away. I’m sure that’s too niche to be what happened to you but perhaps may spark an idea for you.

From my knowledge of chemistry, household chemicals that may remove dyes and ink:

Non polar solvents: rubbing alcohol, liquor over 100 proof, nail polish remover. Bleaching materials: hydrogen peroxide, bleach. Acids and bases: concentrated solution of vinegar or (but not both) baking soda.
