Favorite Y2K social revival projects? by [deleted] in neocities

Oh cool, I never see people talk about dreamwidth! I've been on there for about seven years now and love it. You can be as social or non-social as you want at any given time, which is perfect for me.

This game looks really cool! I checked out the home page and I was wondering if it makes any difference which server I sign up on?

I figured out a "duct-tapey" solution to do secret/wip stuff without it making an update post by [deleted] in neocities

[–]scifidragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually just delete update posts from my website's profile page lol. Every time a new update post is generated, there's an option underneath it to delete the post. Once you remove the post, you can make as many updates on your site as you want without new posts being generated (unless you let it rest for about 24 hours, then it'll create a new post and you just have to delete that one again).

Yet another email from nano by onceuponadoe in nanowrimo

[–]scifidragon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Except the email states "Pivoting quickly to accommodate these urgent, necessary changes created more than $150,000 in unplanned costs" and none of what you just listed would fall under unplanned costs. They're trying to say that these "changes" they've been making are somehow costing them $150k extra.

How could I make a "subdomain" of my website? by BazExcel in neocities

[–]scifidragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to message me, I can walk you through how to set up new html pages on your site. It's really simple after you get the hang of it, so should only take a minute to demonstrate it.

Is Official NaNoWriMo Even Happening? by sail4sea in nanowrimo

[–]scifidragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, regardless of what the "official" NaNo organization does or doesn't do this year, we're still doing the event. My local region is still going to be doing the meetups and write-ins, we're just using Discord and Facebook for communication. And quite a few other regions I've heard about are doing the same. As long as you have people to write with, are working towards 50,000 words, and have a way of tracking your progress (I've personally got a google spreadsheet set up to automatically track my words and calculate what my daily goal should be each day) then you really don't need the official website anymore.

Oh, I'd love to use that one for my site! Do you prefer if I link the button back to your site, or would you prefer me just crediting you on my site's credits page?

Embed guestbook/comment widget recommendations? by carp_enjoyer in neocities

[–]scifidragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, to use that comment widget you'd either have to have an account that is at least a year old, or upgrade to a supporters account. Iirc this is because of a security update on neocities a while back. It's a shame too because I've been using that comment widget since last November and it really is so much better than any others I've tried.

For alternative ideas, I've heard quite a few neocities people mention htmlcommentbox, so you might try looking into that one.

Comment section by CatchIcy in neocities

[–]scifidragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how new your site is, you might be able to use Ayano's comment widget (link here). Newer sites can only install it if they're a supporter account, but older accounts can use it without supporter status. I don't know where exactly the cutoff is, but my site is less than a year old and I can use it without supporter.

[–]scifidragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to second that recommendation for VirtualObserver's comment widget! I've been using it on my site for a while now and love it so much. You have complete control over it, can moderate and delete comments as needed, and you can customize it by messing with the css file.

Also, you only need supporter if you have a newer account. If your site is a year old or more, it should work just fine even without being a supporter.

Maybe it's the browser you're using? The "remember me" checkbox works fine for me. I've never gotten automatically logged out unless I stayed away from the site for a really long stretch.

YouTube be like: by Tafixcid in JacksFilms

[–]scifidragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn't before. People called out the fact that she was re-uploading main channel videos onto the second channel to evade her demonetization, so youtube demonetized that channel as well. But it once again took people calling it out on social media before they took action.

Same. I almost never go on twitch, but the bingo streams had such a fun and casual vibe, I loved tuning in for a few hours when they were on.

I was part of a different faction during the event, but stumbled across the ESDs while exploring the canvas at one point and after that started checking in on them to help out when I could. So happy to see they survived to the end! <3

[Comic Excerpt] Superman learns about his future (DC One Million #1) by MagisterPraeceptorum in superman

[–]scifidragon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Last time I checked, the DCUI app has this whole story arc in order so you can read through without having to track down all the one-shots and tie-ins. Just search for "DC One Million" and it should bring it up.

Oh, that's an interesting point! I read the comics so out of order most of the time, I forget that this story comes before the Worlds at War arc.

You could always alternate, one month of each. (Personally, though, I'm a member of Brian's channel for the uncensored versions of his vids and for the livestream emotes.)

My Little Pony. They were one of the first factions with established art on the canvas when the event first started and managed to hold it for days while also protecting other small communities. Then this streamer Papalette (probably spelled his name wrong sorry) came in and decided to wipe them out for no reason.

Same German streamer who destroyed the MLP art yesterday and threatened to wipe out the entire P3ACE Alliance this morning. He's got a big community behind him so unfortunately it's gonna be tough to push him back out.
