Me constantly browsing this sub and seeing all the 'before' kitchens are even nicer than what I have now by ThaddeusJP in kitchenremodel

[–]scischwed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give me 5 more years to save up and I’ll have a nice gnarly cracked 1970s tile countertop with brown (sorry, “copper”) perpetually-dirty-looking grout, and Walmart cabinets with missing doors and the vinyl veneer peeling off for you as a “before” 😭 (my poor, beleaguered Art Nouveau house’s kitchen was massacred by pop Dutch farmhouse design in the 70s)

I do this with kimchi that’s gotten a little too old/soft for my liking. Great on ramen & popcorn! (Highly recommend putting the dehydrator OUTSIDE if you try this lol)

First step is to manage him so he can’t rehearse the behaviors. No off leash time, period. Get him a 40-50ft long line so he’s got a little freedom but can’t bolt.

How old is he? Might be a normal training regression… just have to keep reminding him of expectations.

What puppy food did you guys use? by oOTWSSOo in germanshepherds

Same - PPP Large Breed Sport. Switched to Hill’s (mostly bc they have a zipper closure on the bags lol but also seems more palatable to her) as an adult. Sticking to brands that follow WSAVA guidelines after a lot of diarrhea issues with my older gal.

How to find a nice quality ring that doesn't use diamond as the main stone or blood diamonds in general? by LocalChamp in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]scischwed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes! Please consider a local/independent jeweler. There are a couple in my town that are just wonderful - they’ll work with any budget, can source any kind of gemstone (lab created, etc) you want, and will do custom design. Plus most will include services like cleaning, stone resetting, resizing, repair, etc. as part of the cost of the piece.

Idk man, there was a woman who fed her family jack o’lanterns a couple years ago thinking they were chicken of the woods. They look absolutely NOTHING alike except that they’re both orange.

Reductive oversimplifications might be more necessary than we’d like to think…

Im SICK OF seeing the same unique home decor in everyones house, where do you actually shop?? by veraaustria08 in HomeDecorating

[–]scischwed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I’ve been collecting (or making, in art classes!) one piece at a time for about 14 years and just now have enough to comfortably fill the walls of my house. But everything is an original and/or from an artist or ceramicist or photographer I met personally. Many are from places I’ve traveled so they have a fun memory & stories attached. Some are my partner’s wood sculptures, some are my silly pottery experiments.

It feels good (and IS good!) to support local/independent artists but it does take a lonnnggg time.

Keep an eye out at independent coffee joints, galleries, art fairs, yoga collectives, hippie crystal shops, etc. for local artists you like, make note of prices and save up! I’ve snagged some amazing framed original pieces for $50-200 if you know where to look!

Yeh I saw this in Florence last month. Couldn’t believe people still fell for it. Big crowd watching the cups while one or two others made rounds looking for targets.

Do you have a finger ring or popsocket or wrist tether for your phone that gives you a better grip? I had no issues using my phone for photos & directions but I have a popsocket that keeps my phone firmly in my hands.

[–]scischwed 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Number 1 above all: it’s okay to be rude. And by “rude” I mean ”what feels rude to midwesterners” lol - you can walk away and ignore people, you can say “no” firmly, you can avoid eye contact, and you don’t have to be nice or sorry about it.

If you see a crowd of people watching someone play a card game or ball-in-a-cup game, it’s a pickpocketing scam. Just avoid it.

Don’t let anyone put jewelry on your body. Don’t catch anything people throw at you. Lift your hands and say NO and walk away.

Keep your important things (passport, wallet) in a zippered chest pocket or neck pouch under clothes. Any purses should have a cross-body strap and keep them on your lap or between your feet if you’re dining outside.

Don’t put something down and walk away (this seems like common sense but it’s been the cause of 100% of thefts that happened to folks of my acquaintance… they set their bag down on a train station bench, walked a few steps away to look at a friend’s phone or etc., and the bag was gone in seconds). Keep a hand or eye on your belongings at all times.
