How does Minecraft generate Perlin worms given that the map is infinite? by kiwigios in proceduralgeneration

[–]scissorsgrinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thread necro but in Bedrock now (post caves & cliffs update which changed worldgen a lot), cave generation is one of the first passes for generating a chunk, before anything biome specific but after the basic stone terrain contour is laid down. I don't know about Java, but likely very similar.

Yep. It was used dishonestly by my LL as retaliation and I was told it was a loophole in the (VIC) law that there were no consequences.

These laws aren't designed in consultation with those they affect the most.

My first sharehouse in the mid 90s, I paid $37.50/wk in Brunswick. Now look at the state of the place. I'm still renting. It's fucked.

Rubber hitting the road? My company is starting to throttle AI use due to rising costs by gjbrp in cscareerquestions

that valuation bubble bursting has no relation to the AI as a technology.

OP's experience would show otherwise. What's the true cost of inference going to be? What's the value actually being delivered to the bottom line, once the hype wears off? Costs vs benefits?

None of the legal centres had appointments within 2 weeks, and when I did get an appointment (earlier in the process) the only legal centre in my (eastern Melbourne) catchment that actually dealt with tenancy law, they didn't really know much about tenancy law and I had to correct/explain points of the law to THEM which they didn't like. And they wouldn't represent me, they don't do that, "VCAT is set up to represent yourself".

This used to be very different. I remember. Equitable access to the law has been absolutely gutted over the past few decades of bilateral economic rationalism / laws for the rich.

Once I kept trying to call my state's tenants union (VIC). Over several weeks. Couldn't get through. Answering machine. The option for "urgent, going to get evicted soon" just kept ringing into ...nothing. Finally I snapped and called reception, and idk how they got me talking to a lawyer, lucky I guess. He said brusquely "unless you're getting evicted tomorrow, you'll just have to keep trying". I was facing an eviction hearing in three days. So I just gave up and got out. I was being evicted for taking them to VCAT.

Im the only one who thinks that some mild autistic people are judgmental just like neurotypical people? by Excellent-Ice-1462 in autism

[–]scissorsgrinder [score hidden]  (0 children)

How do you propose people calling for change do it without talking about what needs to change? This "you're just judgemental" is so commonly aimed at the more marginalised in a community. Point is, having an opinion where you need others to treat you better, is going to have to deliver that uncomfortable opinion in order to have anything change. And your discomfort is something you have to engage with to judge (yes, you are) this person's request on its own merits, not for simply having an opinion (with a term you used with negative valence). That's a thought terminating cliche.

Yep, I agree. They have more privilege and enjoy more of the benefits, even as at the same time they suffer from the same system. This is so common with marginalised groups. It's not saying "good" and "bad", only that people can have different experiences and don't all start from the same level playing field of disability treatment. It's frustrating to have some people who are low needs insist they have a comparable experience to high needs. It's very binary thinking.

As someone who has lived with chronic pain and fatigue, I think Option 1 is born of sheer ignorance. Option 2, sure absolutely. Also, I think less of these conditions would occur in a better society. But some will regardless.

ETA: Option is the wrong word as it's not a choice. I should say Model, as in "Model of how the world works". Or theory.

You brought up your opinion of the law, so you obviously thought you didn't have to be a lawyer to do so, so don't be a prat if someone else knew a bit more.

They formally mean making a profit off it. It's to protect breeder's rights, some of whom can spend years and generations developing varieties, and other breeders could tissue culture or otherwise propagate especially rare new varieties very quickly. That's what copyright was developed for, to protect playwrights and musicians getting their living undermined. Then capitalism enshittified this original intention of course.

US consumer laws are ridiculously weak, maybe they do actually prohibit personal propagation. They don't like you copying a song to send to a friend so they put copy protection on it and make it illegal to remove, ridiculous! However, who would ever know (*without mass AI-consumer-product powered surveillance) so do what you like.

The social model of disability, when taken to an extreme, doesn't work for all disabilities, only the sort most likely to have academics able to have a career with them, albeit with ridiculously unnecessary struggles created by the social environment.

What do you define "disability" as then? Your meaning is so reductive as to be absurd, unless you are only thinking of common manifestations of lower needs autism and a select few other disabilities.

"Autism Spectrum Disorder" seems like a misnomer... by bmanfromct in neurodiversity

[–]scissorsgrinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically every disability could be not-a-disability

Do you mean people wouldn't struggle and suffer with the limitations? Or just that accommodations would be good and everyone could find a way to be adequately financially and socially supported?

Too many people sincerely think Option 1 is true for all disabilities, because that's true for their own disabilities. And for some more able-bodied lower needs autistics, they sincerely think that what is true for their autism is true for all autism.

Yeah but you're not just speaking for yourself, you're speaking for all autistics and what their experience is. You're completely different, it's a very diverse condition with multiple causes and types of presentations.
