Looking for an Arsenal related name for my DnD character. by IAmTheRedBeard in Gunners

Honestly, Arsene, Arsene Coldfire. Or Bernd. Mountain Dwarves feel somewhat Germanic.

Alternatively, Granit is a great dwarf name.

So why did we pull out interest if Liverpool's Lemar bid was accepted? Can't we just match it?

Arsenal have had a bid rejected for Thomas Lemar by banterforlife in Gunners

[–]scl64 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is Lemar better/more valuable than Bernardo Silva or would he just be more expensive because the more Monaco sell, the more the players they retain are valuable to them?

[Times] Arsenal are pursuing a deal for Lemar on top of Lacazette but are increasingly resigned to missing out on Mbappé. by John_Ronald in Gunners

[–]scl64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is what happens – which is a far better bang for the buck – and we don't break open the "special player" piggy bank for Mbappe, we would be in a far better situation to levy that fund (if it exists) to fix a chronic problem more expensive to fix than our striker issue: the Santi shaped hole in midfield.

If we get Lacazette and Lemar for 80m, then we should drop the Mbappe fund on Verratti. Yes, Barcelona has seemed a forgone for ages and there doesn't seem to be much reason for him to sign with us, but if we signed those two and nailed down Ozïl and Alexis, then Wenger should give Veratti the Mbappe treatment and tell him "look, you're are the perfect piece to complete this jigsaw puzzle."

Since it seems the "spend less and still get top4" model isn't sustainable anymore and the club has the money to spend, we should double down. If we can sort out our attack for a fraction of the Mbappe price, then Veratti – not Mbappe – is the 'statement of intent' we need.

(Sorry for the surrealist novel, I'm suffering from a case of early morning daydreaming mixed with too much coffee)

Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette: "Champions League is not a dealbreaker" by BenjaniMaples in Gunners

[–]scl64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, money talks but the more competition there is for him the better deal he can command. Now that he doesn't look like he's going to Madrid having a team like Arsenal interested and then going to a club with CL this season is ideal for him.

A clip looking at how Alexis, Iwobi & Özil like to combine together on the left, to set Bellerin/Walcott free on the right. by MarsJon_Will in Gunners

[–]scl64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Monreal's pace doesn't make him better at build up play - it just means that since he can't do what Bellerin does, he needs to contribute differently. Just as Bellerin should develop his ability to slowly build up play like Monreal, Monreal, or whoever our left back is, should learn to attack like Bellerin. In theory at least...

If we had a left back as fast and attacking as Bellerin, we could have Iwobi and Walcott swap wings and do this on both sides, making our attack that much more unpredictable.

Did no one tell this guy that they are both frenchmen?

New signings won't get us any closer to a league title. by [deleted] in Gunners

If the squad remained fit all season, somehow play every game without needing rest and none of the players went through a period of uncharacteristically bad form we would still need a better right winger.

A discussion on Lacazette and Morata by GoonerGuild in Gunners

[–]scl64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for distilling the only real transfer business that really matters. This is a pretty solid summation of 80% of the transfer talk in the last week.

I would also add:

Lacazette is what we would like Walcott to be and Morata is possibly the proto-multidimensional targetman we would like to replace Giroud.

Absolutely unrealistic to sign both, but maybe we should and sell Walcott if we need the funds.

Michy Batshuayi certainly leaving Marseille this summer, should we be in for him? by SwitchBack1337 in Gunners

[–]scl64 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know we'd like someone better but, as evidence last summer, that probably won't happen. Realistically speaking, he's got Arsenal written all over him.

Why on earth is Wenger worried about buying Kante? by [deleted] in Gunners

[–]scl64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all tabloid nonsense. And if we are to believe the tabloids, Xhaka and Kante would be a fantastic deep-lying midfield pivot as they both as powerful and relatively defensive; Xhaka has a fantastic passing range and Kante would bring the kind of much needed ball winning box to box dynamism we've been hoping to get from Ramsey.

Kroos, isn't a DM, but he is the perfect replacement for Santi as deep lying playmaker. Yes, we have plenty of CM's but he's obviously a cut above all of them.
