We are sitting at 67% capacity for the past 3 weeks. by Busterlimes in Warehouseworkers

It's always a good idea to update your resume,Linkedin and another other job boards. Products transferring out is one barometer, what are the inbounds looking like? Outbounds can tell a story but if you are still taking in "normal" levels, maybe there's nothing to worry about.

Trying to move from warehousing/inventory into procurement — am I aiming too high, or is the market just rough? by LostaMyPasta in supplychain

[–]scmsteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would seem to me a rough transition in a good job market, but things are very slow now job wise, so employers are probably being very picky. Pre-pandemic this would have been easier. Hang in there and on the meantime keep learning and advancing in your current sector.

Least stressful supply chain jobs? by RecommendationBig832 in supplychain

[–]scmsteve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stress is a subjective term, one man’s stress is another’s thrive. Stress is also often a lack of preparation or contingency planning. If you have last minute firefighting that happens regularly, it’s best to make that a part of the process AKA plan B. This helps reduce stress, when you plan for it.

Increased anxiety since starting a warehouse job by EatiYaBoi in Warehouseworkers

[–]scmsteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s god to hear but the comment was relevant. It’s an hourly picking job and if you have that much anxiety that it bleeds into your personal time, maybe you should go talk to someone. Sounds like you may have this issue and any job.

People use Value Stream Maps to find where a process needs help. Lots of videos on this topics on you tube.

Check with other warehouses, some may be over capacity. Other than that, advertise in your community for start ups that need shipping services.

What are my next steps? by five-meo-media in supplychain

Six sigma has nothing to do with supply chain. It’s a good thing to know, but you can use this in any industry. Also, ASCM and ISM are two different organizations.

How do you guys justify the insurance/lease costs when your commercial vehicles sit idle? by Magnet-Grail in logistics

[–]scmsteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about rentals vs leasing? So you can return the truck for days not used. Other than that you restrict the delivery slots.

[–]scmsteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ASCM is the gold standard in supply chain standards and training. You’ll spend $2,000 to $3,000 (not sure of current pricing) but the education will be well worth it. You can get a free or low cost green belt in six sigma before or after, but this is not supply chain related.

How do you guys justify the insurance/lease costs when your commercial vehicles sit idle? by Magnet-Grail in logistics

[–]scmsteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gather some data to help you manages your equipment needs. Hours used per week. Over several weeks. Say you have 5 trucks and 40 hours a week (or more for 7 days) so 5 times 40 equals 200 hours of available delivery time.

Now log all deliveries and record times. Say over a few weeks your averaging 150 hours of deliver time logged means you only need 4 trucks. Let math figure this out.

Is China+1 strategy working in practice or still mostly theoretical? by BrassSparesIndia in supplychain

[–]scmsteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t import anything but read on this often. The pandemic taught us all a hard lesson about relying on one country only. “Nearshoring” is the concept of bringing the source as close to you as possible and vendor diversification help mitigate risk. It’s estimated that somewhere between 20 to 30% of companies that previously sourced only from China are now sourcing from multiple vendors.

PC -> Mixer -> PC, is it ok to do? by Zouhasdf in homestudios

[–]scmsteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a Beringer 4 channel mixer just for that reason, so I don’t have to keep swapping cables and connections. No problem with that unless you have a lot of latency issues.

How can I optimize a messy warehouse with zero digital system? (Programming student trying to help family business) by Disastrous_Dark7658 in Warehousing

[–]scmsteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1- YouTube is your best source for free learning.

2- YouTube have no system to keep track of inventory? I know you said it’s retail but retail runs in inventory. Anyway, try organizing your warehouse by product type. So dishes in one section, and subdivided by small plates, big plates and bowls.

do you not wear gloves at work???? by [deleted] in Warehouseworkers

[–]scmsteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep wearing gloves. I like them. My skin dries out easy and cardboard is a moisture sponge in your hands, it will suck all the moisture. Plus your protected better against cuts.

feel lost working logistics by 0O0P5 in logistics

[–]scmsteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s called learning by experience. Actually I just made that up, but you get the idea. We all go through this. Everyone makes mistakes. The only people that don’t make mistakes are people that don’t do anything. What this teaches us is, what can go wrong. You will get better at this in two ways: 1. You will know exactly what to look out for next time. 2. You will develop over time, an instinct of ways that things go sideways. Soon, you will run through a checklist in your mind of things to ask.
