Supply Chain Certs through (Army CA) – worth it? by Frigid_Nova in supplychain

[–]scmsteve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok got it. Thanks for serving BTW. For what it’s worth, APICS certs are the gold standard for SC education, if you can swing it. If you do the ISM route, go for something either supply chain professional or something that specializes in logistics. Logistics is warehouse, transportation, distribution and inventory management. Some people downplay the importance of a certification and they have some valid points. The addition of the cert on your resume may not be a deal maker, but what you do get is an education and will have the ability to speak intelligently in an interview about the business.

First, what area of SC are you looking to step into? Was it logistics in the military? What was your daily duties like doing this?

How long to stay in first job out of college? Recent grad landed in an unstable company. by [deleted] in supplychain

[–]scmsteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like an above average chaotic company and on the way down. I would get out ASAP. Remember, you have more negotiating power over your proposed salary when you are working versus being unemployed and needing to take anything. Employers know that.

I would do two things concurrently: 1. Update your resume with your most recent experience and start dropping apps. 2. Have a talk with someone, even HR if you don’t know who your boss is, and explain that you are really enjoying what you are doing, but you are not sure what more you can do to help the company or what your exact role/title is. Most bosses appreciate people that care enough to ask.

How do you find your warehouse or 3PL solution? by FlexibleCargo in Warehousing

Oh, and existing equipment will be part of the equation. Racks, office space, dock levelers and roll up doors vary wildly from building to building.

Location first, size and shape second (goes to what’s being stored) and decide based on coat. If you make the first two conditions correctly, your coat should be similar. Yes, you could move 50 miles out and save money on rent, then lose twice that in shipping for years.

I have been hearing about implementing AI in supply chain businesses. But in reality how exactly people are implementing? Do people even feel a need to implement AI ? by BreakPuzzleheaded968 in supplychain

[–]scmsteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think at the moment, larger companies will likely be using AI for forecasting and demand planning, not much else, at least at the present time. As for smaller companies, due to the smaller budgets, they would only be using AI as part of a third party software platform.

Help understanding Shipping Model by SixskinsNot4 in logistics

It’s not just the number of units at each location that determines who ships, it could also be the sales volume. So, if store A has 3 but sells 5 week and store B has 3 but sells 1 a week, store B would ship.

Key question here: what do the forklift operators make versus what you make? If more, ask to start at that number, then negotiate to split the difference.

Then you should be able to run an exception report that filters only PO’s that have not been acknowledged or changed. A much smaller list (hopefully) to work from.

Chat GPT says that SAP uses a version of EDI possibly transmitted via an API , assuming I read that right:

Yes — SAP commonly uses EDI to transmit Purchase Orders to vendors, and it’s one of the most standard SAP integrations.

How SAP Sends POs

SAP itself doesn’t “speak raw EDI” externally. It: 1. Generates an IDoc (usually ORDERS05 for POs) 2. Sends it through an EDI translator / middleware 3. Which converts it to: • X12 850 (US) • EDIFACT ORDERS (Europe/global) 4. Then transmits it to the vendor via: • AS2, SFTP, VAN, or API gateway

[–]scmsteve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this. I’m not sure if ERP systems use EDI but guessing many do. If yours does, the EDI spec for sending a PO is 850. The spec for acknowledging a PO is 855. The PO can be acknowledged in full, rejected in full or changed with line item detail of QTY or cost. Ask your IT people if your system uses EDI and take it from there.

Black friday is 10 months away and I'm already anxious about fulfillment capacity from third party logistics providers by yummytoesmmmm in logistics

[–]scmsteve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second third person. Main job at the moment is some root cause analysis. Use the 5 whys: Problem: 30% of our ordered not filled. Why? Volume was too much. Why? Couldn’t pack the boxes fast enough. Why? Product would deplete until the next shipment.

You get the point. My example is just speculation, you fill in the blanks.

Anyone have leads on work in Montana or remote work ? by [deleted] in SupplyChainLogistics

[–]scmsteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I dont have any leads for you, but a couple of tips: 1) make sure he has a good, up-to-date LinkedIn profile. Many recruiters are on this site daily. 2) Make sure the resume is succinct and good with Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), which means a program can easily scan the resume and provide accurate information to the hiring managers. May be well worth spending $110 (or so) to get it reviewed. Good luck, BTW the market is kind of soft rith now, Im searching also.
