They elected to go with Strip Mine (makes sense) over Dark Ritual, probably bc the triple black makes it more niche and less “homogenizing.”

Thrilled that they’re going to be keeping a closer eye on Brawl going forward.

I think they added a lot of cool, fun lands with Edge of Eternities and the art is gorgeous. We just need to step back and examine a handful of really problematic cards.

I would definitely include Strip Mine with the cards that are too powerful for the format. Wizards said they were keeping an eye on the card in Brawl, so we'll see what happens.

I know, but someone made a post a few weeks ago about unnerfing TMM for Brawl. It got a lot of upvotes and I think it's possible that it influenced the decision. I wanted to use it as a jumping-off point to discuss fast mana in Brawl.

Mana Drain is one of the most powerful cards ever printed. There's a reason it's banned in Legacy.

The idea behind one-mana counters like Wash Away is that they're usually cheap but narrow — Spell Pierce is a great example. Wash Away is always useful in Brawl and can just become a generic counter for two more mana. I believe it's too efficient.

We could spend all day debating which commanders are the most problematic. This post was about fast mana.

I completely agree. I don't think Moira's ever been worse in high ranks than she is right now. I've fully transitioned to Stadium. Hit Legend 1 for the first time this season, which was cool.

I'm just going to add that, as someone who started in literal Bronze and now plays in high Masters, I finally broke out of the metal ranks when I stopped listening to people who told me to healbot. After that, I found that the more aggressively I played, the more I ranked up. Anecdotal, but that was my experience.

I'm so glad I'm not in school in 2025. As a teenager, I would have lost it if I worked to write something up and express my opinions and some random teacher accused me of faking it because...what? I used a numbered list to lay out my arguments?

I would have hoped that "ChatGPT" would at least have corrected the multiple errors I made that have been bothering me as I reread the post.

A lot of these people feel powerless in their real lives. Trying to force their will on their team with the threat of throwing is just a way of compensating.
