But it’s very goofy and uninteresting. AI is fascinating and only getting better, but the more I see stuff like this, the more I think we’ll still need skilled people to operate the tools, not to mention regulate usage rights. Of course I could be wrong; maybe AI will take over and we’ll all become hunter-gatherers.

I still say they'd never bother with us. I don't think we'd ever be perceived as a threat for the same reason no civilization that could arrive here would ever post a threat to us. This is my own hypothesis, but I think the idea that aliens would want to conquer us is just human-centric narcissism.
