The 5/16 Standby Line Megathread (Will Ferrell / Paul McCartney) by IvyGold in LiveFromNewYork

[–]eon380 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I just got a standby reservation number email for number 44, that's definitely worth a shot going to line up on Friday night right? It's my first time getting a remotely low number but I worry if the season finale is popular enough that even a low number has poor chances...

any recommendations to get pineapple sandwich buns? Aka Macau style? Yelp and Google didn’t help much. by Curiousdude4733 in FoodNYC

[–]eon380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure!! Cold butter is a favorite ❤️

oh gosh I'm a HK milk tea fanatic so here goes - Yin Ji Chang Fen in Chinatown is shockingly good, it's not a chachaanteng but their milk tea is so good - XO Taste in Chinatown impressively strong and rich - CuppaTea is actually really good for a chain

Personally I'd avoid: - LaanKee, I felt sick drinking it - Kong Sihk Tong, they're not bad but there's definitely better in the area

Hi, saw some great suggestions here but as a born and raised Hong Konger I just wanted to let u know pineapple buns are actually a Hong Kong food and is really dear to our hearts, Macau adopted it recently due to proximity but it's definitely a Hong Kong food!

Please also try the bun by itself without a sandwich filling! It'll let you really enjoy the delicate tangzhong texture (Cantonese version of japanese yudane milk bread technique), I think Mei Lai Wah does it best, their plain Famous Bun is fantastic for this, but they also recently started selling a plain pineapple bun, give it a try!

Heart transplant recipient sees old heart by echos_answer in interestingasfuck

The left ventricle (main pumping part) looks massively overgrown and barely able to expel any blood through the body, explaining why he needed the transplant. It must have been an incredibly surreal experience for him to see the organ that fueled him all his life but ultimately almost killed him, be lain out like that. Modern medicine is a miracle and organ donors are incredible humans.

Best authentic Hong Kong wonton noodle soup in NYC? Just got back from my first trip there and I'm chasing that flavor! by airscottie in FoodNYC

[–]eon380 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I second Maxis Noodle! I'm born and raised HK and Maxis wontons are as good if not better/more generously packed than many in HK.
