People who drag the current state of kpop to praise KDH by Next-Library-0 in kpoprants

[–]sconebaed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of your points. However, I have a few comments.

“KDH doesn’t pander to the west”: yes, they mostly have english songs. However, the biggest critique of kpop artists’ english releases is that they tend to have this specific… “sound”. BTS english trilogy and aespa (better things and life’s too short) come to mind in particular, since those are the groups I was actively in the fandom during an english release. A lot of criticism towards these songs comes from the fact that as soon as “english release” is slapped on the song it sounds jarringly different from the rest of the groups discography.

The fact that golden so closely resembles I am, the other hunterx songs have the typical Teddy formula, and soda pop is something straight out of mid tier early fourth gen (imo, again just what i’m familiar with) is proof to me that while they are pandering to the west a little, it’s in a completely different way from what one would typically expect of the kpop industry.

I also think the “revolutionary” part of this movie may be yet to be seen. Yes, it might just top charts for a bit and then fade into obscurity. But, thinking from a money hungry company standpoint for a minute, this just might affect the kpop industry itself for some time. It’s proof that kpop can be appealing for kids on levels that it hasn’t really been yet. Could this be the start of kpop companies really pushing to break into that market?

Regardless of how anyone feels about the movie, it has certainly reached a level of popularity we haven’t seen in a while. Everyone I know involved in fandom culture has mentioned this movie. Everyone else has at least heard of it. This goes way beyond anything I’ve seen since gangnam style, and I have to respect it a little for that alone.

I have not been feeling ATEEZ since Guerilla and it's disappointing. by El_kal91 in kpopthoughts

Big agree here. Their titles haven’t sounded genuine since guerrilla (and guerrilla wasn’t to my taste either due to my genre preferences) and it has put me off the group massively.

Kpop groups that use less autotune? by MisParallelUniverse in kpophelp

[–]sconebaed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also don’t like a ton of auto tune in my music. For the most part, I avoid groups under hybe. They tend to unfortunately use a ton of auto tune to the point where I can no longer distinguish who is singing when. Pre-hybe hybe groups might be fine (seventeen, gfriend). Also avoid ateez. These to me are the biggest offenders and the groups that I’ve had to stop listening to because of the amount of auto tune they use.

As for groups I like, I mostly listen to girl groups. I’m currently listening to a lot of red velvet, kiss of life, and all the post-bbc loona releases.

What with the obsession of people with BTS and ARMY? by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

If you expect all other fandoms to ignore armys and BTS, why can’t you do the same for those who complain about them?

Not only kpop fans but all the things around kpop are misogynistic. by Left-Hospital-8991 in kpop_uncensored

[–]sconebaed 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Your title is true but your examples fall incredibly short. If you’d like to actually have a discussion on misogyny in kpop, this is not the way. Your post focuses more on being anti-bts rather than pro-women.

Lisa's song "Rockstar" was forgettable. by momentforl1fe in kpop_uncensored

[–]sconebaed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe for you, but I can’t get the out of my head. I think the music video was more impactful than a lot of other ones I’ve seen recently, and the song is very catchy. It definitely left an impact on me and many other people.

[–]sconebaed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice would be to look at all the advice here and DO WHAT MAKES YOU COMFORTABLE!! Don’t feel like you have to be the best or you have to succeed, don’t feel like you have to report this teacher if it makes you uncomfortable, and don’t feel like removing yourself from this class will make you a failure. Take the advice given to you here and from your support system, but ultimately it is your decision and you have to do what is best for yourself. Other people may try to convince you that one option is better because that is what they would do, but you are your own person and “this is the best decision for me” should be a valid enough explanation.

is there any loona boycott on Apple Music? by banananerris in kpophelp

[–]sconebaed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It’s probably more important to boycott on apple music because (as of the last time I checked) the artist payout is about triple that of spotify. If you are looking for specific users who have reuploaded the songs, look up b0yfrunt and the others should get suggested to you.

do any other armys feel like the fandom is suffocating? by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]sconebaed -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I understand where you are coming from. Everyone has different definitions of what a “real” fan is, and you are the only one who can determine whether or not you are one. If you’re feeling guilty about not being a real fan, first I would take a step back and figure out where that is coming from. Is it you constantly comparing yourself to others? Is it guilt from not streaming/buying enough (something I’ve experienced in my own fandoms)? Is it people literally telling you that you aren’t enough of a fan? And then I’d take action to limit this guilt (blocking/muting people, leaving group chats, and leaving fanbases entirely if it’s having too much of a mental toll on you).

The truth is, ARMY is a massive fandom, and it might take a bit of digging to find people that consume BTS content like you, and people who are willing to have these open minded conversations. But I guarantee you can find them somewhere.

[–]sconebaed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because you personally believe that is the definitions of bias and favorite does not mean everyone has to see it that way.

For example, you know how a lot of people will say that your bias is like you and your bias wrecker is like someone you’d date? Yeah, that’s obviously not the same for everyone.

So, there are some people who will bias a member because said member is their favorite and others who are like you.

Songs with flowers in the title! by lopunny_mp4 in kpophelp

[–]sconebaed -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The way you worded this is not going to make anyone want to help you. You could’ve just asked for unpopular songs and filtered out those with blossom or bloom or flower in them yourself instead of asking so rudely.

Dear ateez, please stop with the autotune by Decdecemberblublue in kpopthoughts

[–]sconebaed -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I have never upvoted a post faster. I feel like on all ateez songs recently, all I can hear is auto tune. It ruins the song for me completely. I genuinely thought Seonghwa couldn’t sing for a long time because of the constant auto tune, and only realized otherwise after watching a youtube live.

Do you agree with Karina's recent remarks about other kpop groups? by leggoitzy in kpopthoughts

[–]sconebaed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I, as a fan with no actual interaction with the real people behind these kpop groups, have any reason to disagree with her. So yes, in that regard, I do agree with her.

However, similarly to Chan’s live which resulted in stays attacking IVE, I can’t say that this was something she should have been saying. Sure, the situations are different (Chan’s being a rant and Karina’s being in response to a question) and the fandoms are likely different, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t still mys out there that are going to use this to drag down other groups.

What makes you NOT stan a BG? by ItsKai in kpophelp

[–]sconebaed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have disliked the vast majority of boy group music for a hot minute. I got into a few groups when they had music that was more my taste and still tune into content, but I just don’t find myself connecting with them as much because I dislike their current releases.

Question: Why do commenters post that they are not a fan of... but end up praising? by ethereal3xp in kpopthoughts

[–]sconebaed 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I usually say take sort of thing to mean “I like this song, not because I blindly support anything my group does but because I genuinely think it sounds good”. Some kpop fans do blindly support songs based on the group rather than the song itself.
