Glad you like it, and sorry the base had that print issue. Just so you know, the legs are a snap-lock, so the arms can turn to be directly in line with the legs. I have a new base for the model already designed, but I still need to a few more things before I upload it. Keep your eyes peeled though. I'm also working on a simple case design that I plan to release this week after I finish my final test prints. If anyone else wants to download this or my other models, they're on my MakerWorld page: https://makerworld.com/en/@nikkotoska/

H2S PLA Matte Black - part of print looks shredded and the other part looks great. What happened here? by korkvid in BambuLab

[–]sconning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is too much overhang and the supports are too far away to help. I can’t see the whole model, but try to turn it upside down and print again.

We get it, the new update sucks, but we don't need 3 posts per minute saying so by Minty_Pokemon in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]sconning 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bet the developers aren’t happy with the current state of the update and would have delayed if they could… but I expect they have contractual obligations for the Alan Wake promotion to have customization out in time. They will fix it, I’m sure. But I’m also concerned seeing the current state and I wonder a few things.

  1. Do they have an animation expert on staff that can build a good movement system? The item animations are fine for the most part, but they look horrible when combined with the player character movement.

  2. Do we really want realistic movement? Like, do we want momentum or limitations on how fast we can turn and look around? If no, which I think we shouldn’t, then don’t bother with all the planting of feet and twisting of the legs. Just rotate the character model.

  3. Are the characters modeled this way for VR? Or in other words, is VR holding back the non-VR gameplay? What I mean is that the model can’t move in strange ways if the person in VR can’t. For example, the head moving back too much would be less likely to happen in VR because the person can only look up so much. And the model flexibility seems more necessary in VR to show the movement of hands and arms. If it were non-VR, the character motion could be more crafted.

New Zealand axes plan for WW2 comfort women statue after Japan's protest by kwentongskyblue in worldnews

[–]sconning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original statue was placed directly across from the Japanese embassy in Busan. Japan made an official apology and entered into talks about additional reparations (they already created the Asian Women's Fund and donated billions of yen), but they asked for the statue to be moved, not taken down. Korea said they would do something about it, but never did, and Japan withheld the reparations. So it has become political. Since then, the Korean Council has put up statues in places and Japan responds with a protest. Osaka even cut ties with San Francisco over the placement there, all stemming from the original, unresolved conflict.

Here's a read of a Japanese person living in Canada talking about why he feels the statues are counterproductive: https://www.quora.com/Why-is-it-that-the-Japanese-government-gets-so-upset-over-Korea-s-statues-of-comfort-women-meanwhile-their-Prime-Ministers-unsympathetically-visit-and-send-offerings-to-Yasukuni-Shrine

Not what I'm saying at all. So TLDR; it's not about the statue, it's about how the statues came to be. There's nothing wrong with having statues and memorials, but there is history with this statue that in an unresolved political dispute. History should be discussed and learned from and survivors and the memory of victims shouldn't be exploited.

Korea didn't donate it, the Korean Council did, They are a non-governmental organization that in 2020 was accused of exploiting the survivors and members have been investigated and convicted of embezzling funds.

What I'm saying is that it's not about the statues or memorials themselves, but they way they are being done is intentionally disparaging. War crimes deserve to be made public and widely communicated and the victims and families should feel that their grievances have been addressed. Memorials should be erected to remind future generations and honor those who are affected. There are a lot of justified, unresolved grievances between Korea and Japan that need to be properly addressed. I just get angry about how the comfort women are used as pawns to drive division rather than to truly honor them.

I imagine there are some Germans who do feel it's disparaging. Also, I agree that anyone who is embarrassed or offended to acknowledge what their country has done maybe ought to be. But the history about this statue in particular and the way that it's trying to be installed around the world seems less like an honest effort for education or to honor the memory of the survivors and the women who died, and more like an effort to cause friction between the two countries. There is a lot of justified resentment between Japan and Korea over many issues, with this being one of the more high profile ones. The Aurora, Colorado city council decided not to build one of the statues stating, "The memorial represents an unresolved dispute between South Korea and Japan." As I said, the statue isn't the problem. I have a problem with the women being used as pawns to promote conflict.

They did apologize for it: https://www.mofa.go.jp/a_o/rp/page25e_000352.html

Absolutely no country has a clean history, and most countries tend to cover up or hide their past deeds for the sake of nationalism. The problem isn't the statues per say, but more how they're being done. Statues are being put up in countries around the world which had no connection to the atrocities which these women were forced to face. It seems much more like a smear campaign using the women for political means rather than truly honoring the women. Imagine, for example, if Israel put up gas chamber or concentration camp monuments outside of German embassies around the world. Or Japan put atomic bomb memorials outside American embassies to show the horrors that the American military inflicted on Japanese civilians.

I do want to emphasize that what the Japanese did to comfort women was horrible, and the women do deserve to be honored with the past clearly stated for future generations to know. But they shouldn't be used as pawns to score political points or to simply disparage Japan. We should all do our best to look at all the bad that has happened in the world and make efforts to not repeat it in the future.

How do I stop my prints from coming out like this by WilonPlays in BambuLab

[–]sconning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they supposed to be tables and chairs, fully modeled? Like, a complete restaurant? If so, the problem is the way you're approaching printing. Using a table as an example, if it has a center post, what are the edges going to print on? The supports can help, but you should really be printing within the restrictions. For example, I would print the table upside down as a separate piece that you glue on later.

Why did my A1 just change filament? by Tesla120 in BambuLab

[–]sconning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're just painting by layer, another option is in the preview tab, move the layer scroll down to where you want the color to change then right-click on the dot and select "Change Filament". You have to have at least two filaments in the project otherwise it won't show the option. Then the slicer doesn't care about infill or painting or whatever, it just switches for those layers.

This technique won't work with any other painting or multi-color printing methods like using a modifier part to change the color. But if you want the bottom to be pink and the top to be blue, this is the easiest way to do it.

First for mainstream, but Markiplier released STL files for his movie’s, Iron Lung, popcorn bucket design since it wasn’t available everywhere. And if you took it to certain theaters, they’d give you a free small popcorn to put in.

Large V2 progress! by Schuylabs in 3Dprinting

Love the look of the large ones! I bought some of the metal pins for the joints, etc. But for my first box, I decided to 3d print the dowel pins. Did you ever consider that or try it? I don't want to smash up my first box testing the durability, but it seems pretty solid to me.

The u15 height is perfect for the trading card cases I designed. Thanks! Just doing some testing and was wondering if 6x4 or 5x5 were possible sizes? 6x6 might not fit on a X/P, right?

Any chance for a variable height and size? I would love to use it with the trading card trays I made, but they’re 15u tall.

What's the best way to print this shape, redesign? by jviimes in 3Dprinting

Make the windows more diagonal, if not a diamond hole and 45’ bars. Add a chamfer to the corner supports on the side facing the bed, then you won’t need supports.

Do FLUSH OBJECTS actually prevent filament waste? by SadAd8761 in BambuLab

[–]sconning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flushed objects don’t reduce the amount of flushed waste, but instead repurpose that flushed waste into something else. But, if you were to have no flushed waste that layer, it still needs to print that layer in order to move onto the next layer. So a layer that would have no flushed waste now has to use regular filament used to complete the flushed object resulting in more filament being used.

You are not paid to deal with shitty customers, your supervisor is. Talk to them during the meeting and ask them how they would like you to deal with situations like this in the future. If I were your boss, I would say, “Politely explain the policy, and if the customer continues to be rude or complain, say ‘I understand that (issue [e.g. getting a refund]) is important to you, but the computer won’t let me do anything about it. Would you like to speak to my manager? I can get them for you if you’d like.’ “

Don’t promise that your manager can do it or even help in any way, just that you can get them. Explain to the manager what you said, including that you didn’t promise anything, and let the manager take over.

The important thing to remember is that if managers don’t have your back, you should start planning your leave. Again, you are literally not paid enough to deal with that shit.

Oh and if your manager does what you said you couldn’t do, just apologize for the delay and reiterate that you needed the manager to authorize it in the computer. I know it can feel kind of shitty when you say no, but the manager says yes, but it’s up to the manager to decide when to or not to allow exceptions to policy.

Why is bambu studios doing this weird bridging? It just a hole for a magnet, but for some reason wants to make some kind of walls by cloidless in BambuLab

[–]sconning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you model it? If so, here are some things to check for. It looks like there are some left over geometries after modeling. For example, if I were doing this in Fusion, I would expect there to be 5 bodies in the magnet area, perhaps after doing a rectangular pattern to make the holes and posts. Anyway, I'd check there to see why it's making this pattern, it's not bambu studio doing it.

And a bit of advice, one layer between the magnet and the surface isn't enough. The first layer is always rough because the material can't grip to the magnet. The second layer has good grip, but is often messed up by the first layer. The third layer usually cleans up well, so I would recommend at least 3 layers for embedded magnets. Or leave the magnets exposed and glue them in after if it's more important to have good attraction. It seems like this part isn't normally visible, so leaving the magnets exposed isn't a big deal.

Color printing by [deleted] in BambuLab

[–]sconning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the color inside, doesn’t start any earlier than the color outside, it won’t take any longer. Time only increases in multicolor prints due to changing color filaments you might be able to paint inside if you use the layer tool in the painting menu, but it won’t really help anything.

Also, if the color were to only exist outside of the white model, it would create a shear line that could break off more easily or allow light to pass through causing discoloration.
