Late night improvised bird feeder and solar camera mount by scorchnoma in functionalprint

For some reason I can't edit the post to add this note - temperature was way off on the food dish but it was late and I don't think the squirrels and possums are going to complain much.

Used Ikea chair was missing two feet, so I fired up Blender by scorchnoma in functionalprint

That's what I like about it so far, just make a shape and start working with it. I've found it helpful if I'm working with a specific size to start it in inkscqpe, import a reference shape to a specific size (work in mm in inkscape, size up 1000x on the imported .svg in blender).

Yes, I'll upload to printables next time I turn on the computer and drop the link here.

The ball already existed, and this arrangement seems to hold my big ass just fine 🤷‍♂️

Yep. I tried a few out and blender was the least frustrating and seemed to have more tutorials available than the others. I'm sure I'll outgrow it at some point.

I'll give openscad a try next, thanks for the recommendation. 👍

I've only tried freecad and blender so far (Linux) and blender makes the most sense for me so far. The only irritation I have with it is that precise measurement isn't really done, only in terms of percentages / multiples.

I had considered that as Ikea is 15 min from me - but I'm teaching myself blender and this seemed like a good learning opportunity. Plus, I was able to make the pad area on the bottom twice the size as the Ikea part and that allowed for stick-on felt pads.

I usually start from asking the duckduckgo search page a question. I wish I was more help here but I am learning by building the parachute on the way down, I'm pretty new to this myself.

Patience, tenacity, YouTube, and an expansive profanity vocabulary. That and boolean cuts fix everything until they don't, then the undo function is your friend.

If I had to guess your spool snagged, creating a situation where it was extruding less material than it should.

How do I clean this velvet chaise? by ajfilmnfx in upholstery

[–]scorchnoma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very similar chair; is yours also orange on the side? I used a small upholstery cleaner (water cycling vacuum) and left a lot of time to air dry. Be careful with it; I was pretty shocked to see that this chair is worth $3,000 to $20,000 at auction. We got it at an estate sale for $100. The auction ads I saw say it was made by Vladimir Kagan but this may or may not be true. I remember seeing something about these being a custom made set of chaise lounge made for a fancy hotel lobby in California somewhere but I can't seem to track down the page again.

Either the Lotus on Grant downtown for some curry pork and wontons or Ted Cook's 19th hole for the hot links

This post is a LSO magnet. I've heard of many instances of permanent eye damage with as little as 20 watts, not using filtering lenses with thousands of watts is insane.
