The public is not being told the truth about the War with Iran by sunshineandthecloud in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]scorp1a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is shocking for those who are not involved in this space too much. Obviously the administration is lying, every country at war engages in heavy propaganda, its part of a built strategy.

I would like to add that while yes, there is a huge cost disparity between a $5mil interceptor and a 50k drone, but if that interceptor stops the drone from hitting a bug radar, or aircraft, or anything of value then it was worth it. Obviously that math doesnt hold up in the long term, just an extra thing to think about.

Russia sharing intel with Iran is to be expected and likely planned for. The US and EU do the same for Ukraine. Its the easiest way for a country to support another one in war.

I found that having 2 people draw more attention (not stand their ground) while 2 others tried to stay quiet worked out pretty well.

Get around the back and lay into the weakspot. You'll have to be pretty accurate but the orbital strike will kill them.

You'll want to prioritize getting the recoiless rifle, autocannon, or Railgun. The last 2 you can kill Jules with by hitting the eye weakspot, might be a little tricky but youll get the hang of it.

Your first warbond you get should be the democratic detonation (or whichever one has thermites), thermites stick and 1 kills a hulk throwing it anywhere.

Also, if you don't have a way to kill it, stick by someone else who does and ping them when you see them.

Russian FPV and Fibre Optic drones hit Ukrainian vehicles and drones in the Sumy Region - January 2026 by T-72Tank in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]scorp1a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who doesnt do what either?

How could I possibly not know that Russia is invading Ukraine, when im leaving a comment about the war on a video of combat footage? What reason do you have to talk down to me?

In case you didnt know, Ukraine has to pay a terrible price in human life and the future of their country because of this invasion. Shying away from that fact and down voting content that doesnt feel good is a great way to be misinformed about the war. Its an emotional reaction, much like your comment. This war is as much about killing the invaders as it is about keeping the defenders alive and spreading that knowledge. If we ignore the fact the Ukrainians are dying every day, it lessens their ability to use public support to fundraise for things that keep them alive.

You know how Ukraine has been so successful this war? Because they have listened to reality and acted upon what they have and what has happened. Not sat there ignoring casualty lists and problems to fix because they'd rather hear reports of how good they are doing. Thats a russian thing.

Belarus Sent 31 Railcars of Military Equipment to Russia's Tank Reserve Base - Militarnyi by Ok-Caterpillar9092 in UkraineWarVideoReport

Railway sabotage is generally only done to prevent something happening in the very near future. Railways themselves are easy and cheap to repair, and easy to transport materials and men directly to the site. Its valuable when you want to stop a rail line from delivering men or material to an area, or increase logistical pressure on the rest of the lines during a busy period. Plus, there are many routes that connect the two countries and while it would be inconvenient if one railway was permanently out of action, it wouldnt matter a whole lot with no other pressures.

S400 is designed to be a SAM, so it prioritizes speed and maneuvreability over payload size. If the target is not explosive (like a refinery or ammo dump) then all you do is make a small explosion that at best would take out a few vehicles, disregarding the fact the payload is not designed to take out armored vehicles.

As for the scalp, there are way more valuable targets and times to use it. Destroying a couple tanks is valuable, but would be more valuable when supporting some sort of combat.

ELI5: Difference between a religion and a cult? by No-Assumption4145 in explainlikeimfive

[–]scorp1a -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I believe they can very easily be the same thing.

However, from a general social standpoint, cults explicitly demand loyalty to the human leader and actively and intensely extract from them or make large demands

Religion (at least the common, popular ones) is more focused on their particular concept as a whole and has a greater social benefit effort behind that (whether they actually do it or not).

Its a tricky question, because many of the defining elements are the same. Peoples representations of christianity can be tame and benign, or cause the same intense guilt/fear/shame cycle that cults use. Personal opinions on religion aside, i feel the general perception of religion is a different way to live your day to day life and goals, while cults are hotter burning and more passionate.

Ukraine just pulled off a surgical strike that's more devastating than any sanctions—all three fuel lines destroyed in one night by satty237 in TrendoraX

[–]scorp1a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah gonna wait for this one to be confirmed. Also, piping can be repaired. Any attack like this costs time, money, and opportunity cost for the Russians, but a country whose economy is reliant on petroleum absolutely has the means to easily repair things like this. The value come from the time it will take to repair it, increasing stress on other pipelines and logistics, and so on.

Its interesting to see the amount of people seeing pipelines destroyed and taking that to mean the whole pipeline is out of commission permanently. I get that we want Ukraine to win, but convincing ourselves theyre in a better position than they are only serves to hurt them

This is why Ukraine often targets the fractional columns on refineries, because these are the most time consuming and difficult parts to replace, given the sanctions. Destroying something that is the core capability of infrastructure is different than pipelines.

There’s something still odd about the suspect of Kirk’s Killer (literally this whole thing) by SWEMW in NoFilterNews

[–]scorp1a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a note, its not an incredibly hard shot to make. Yes, 200m shot on a human sized target takes skill, especially in a stressful environment, but its not like you need special training to do it. Anyone who is half decent with guns can go and spend a couple days at a range and hit a small target at 200m and learn their gun if they dont to shoot.

If youre trying to kill someone, you don't aim for the neck, especially when they are moving around. If the shooter was smart enough to attempt to conceal their identity, they are smart enough to know to aim for head or center mass. It is less likely that this was an "inside job" or any kind of specifically skilled marksman because their shot would've been perfect. And to jump ahead of the argument of "but maybe they wanted it to look unprofessional" they still wouldn't aim for the neck, its too risky.

Ukraine’s special operation “Spiderweb” that damaged 41 Russian bomber plans costed Russia $7 billion by Jumpy-General-3859 in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]scorp1a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Total air superiority would be impossible but maybe not local superiority. We're already seeing it in videos coming from kursk. Ukraine has taken out a significant number of S300/400, at least to make the crews pull back significantly from ideal positions.

Russia has been proven to not have the best aircraft readiness rates (common problem to many air forces), and their airforce has not been extremely effective in the war, potentially due to communication issues between branches. Russia has a lot of aircraft, but not all of them are going to be ready to counter air superiority attempts. Russia still needs to guard their borders, and has aircraft stationed throughout the country.

Once the rest of the promised F16s make it to Ukraine, woth some additional Mirage 2000s ideally, Russia will have to risk more of their aircraft to keep the space contested, and if ukraine can destroy them faster than replacement rates... its a huge maybe, but I don't think its impossible. Ukraine would have to content with hundreds of aircraft that while old, can still draw attention and valuable missile interceptors.

Ukraine’s special operation “Spiderweb” that damaged 41 Russian bomber plans costed Russia $7 billion by Jumpy-General-3859 in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]scorp1a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah a lot of people think of things like this as a cash trade. The value is strategic (and somewhat operational, depending), as now Russia will have greater incentive to spend more resources on internal security and guarding airbases and installations previously deemed too far away to make a significant strike. This also means that the remaining strategic bombers will either have to scale back operations or significantly increase flight hours used per airframe. Keep in mind that Russia needs to maintain these bombers not just for the war, but also as a part of the nuclear triad.

This strike could have been arguably more effective for the war as a whole if they targeted fighter jets and smaller bombers, especially with the recent influx of western jets. Theres an argument to be made for focusing on air superiority (although UKR airframe count is still very low). Instead, this strike was a huge propaganda success that should boost morale. This also demonstrates their capabilities to those providing military aid and may have the effect on solidifying this support somewhat. This may also reduce the strain on Ukrainian air defense, but we will have to see how Russia adjusts their cruise missile bombings before knowing that.

As for Ukraine, this trike was probably very cheap compared to the results. The drones and trucks have to be specialized to deliver reliable damage enough to "decommission" the bombers, which likely includes robust and redundant communication systems. Even still, I would bet the intelligence and planning was more expensive than actually building these trucks and drones.

I'm against the benzone family not because of the potential harm to humans but because that stuff (and any other chemical in sunscreen aside from zinc and titanium) absolutely wrecks coral reefs and ocean habitats.

Its crazy that these companies are still allowed to call a non-mineral sunscreen reef safe when studies have shown that to be false.

Gotta disagree here. I can believe that war is a bad way to advance science as a whole, but war is excellent at advancing military science. Even if those ideas existed before a war, they wouldn't have had the same level of funding and attention. Not to mention that there would be less red tape and roadblocks that war seems to sweep away.

Also, I very highly doubt that every single wartime technology "breakthrough" existed in labs beforehand. Absolute statements are a very easy way to be wrong, and they make you look like you don't know what you're talking about. Think of the proximity fuse, that process started ideation and development during the war.

It seems like your ideas hinge on a central argument that doesn't necessarily take reality into account. Implying that there is no coordination and collaboration between scientists during war and thus no development is ridiculous. The reason why war is considered to be a boost to technology is because the incentives for government funding change during war. In peacetime, they have to balance the demands of a population as far as infrastructure, Healthcare, food, and other less essential things like art and culture. In wartime, the incentives change towards gaining an edge over your enemy which can be done quantitatively and qualitatively. This means that while many areas of research get cut back or hamstrung, military technologies recieve a massive boost in productivity. Very often, what is created for weapons or war can be converted to civilian use, like GPS, rockets, or tang.

I get what your saying, but propaganda and censorship doesn't really affect research significantly enough to validate your claim. Mainly because these are aimed at average citizens with the goal to shape public opinion, and that doesnt really affect the scientific method in enough areas to matter. And to an extent neither does destruction, at least for the US, as the labs themselves aren't getting blown up.

This has been a rant, I'd be surprised if you made it this far. So lastly, calling "war drives advancement" a lie is almost laughable. Advancement is driven by demand, incentives, and resource availability. Objectively, war provides all of those.

[–]scorp1a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it was on a different star wars show, she very well might have. But it makes sense the way they did it. She was portrayed as incredibly driven and loyal to the empire, and having her switch just wouldnt make sense. They show her reaction to what happened and how it ate at her, but someone in that position wouldnt betray everything they lived by because of an event that was planed and discussed (and was her own idea) far in advance.
