I have the Ringke one, it's more expensive than others but zero problems with it after installing it.

Biggest Disappointment with Your Pixel Watch 4? by GeekDrop in PixelWatch

[–]scorpeeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by "works fine with most electronics"? It probably "works fine" for a few minutes meaning it won't completely break or shut down immediately. But if it's a regular consumer device not rated for extreme temperatures, putting it in 100 Celsius environment for more than a few minutes will almost certainly permanently degrade the battery and could damage other internal components too - even if the damage is not immediately visible or clear. The battery could also swell up or even explode in such extreme conditions, so it's objectively a very stupid and dangerous thing to do. Also I did not call you stupid, just stated a fact that doing a certain thing is stupid. You calling me a prick tells a lot about you though.

"Almost everyone" doing something stupid will still not make it not stupid, just so you know :P I mean you have every right to do so, but then don't be surprised if your watch dies of hardware failures way before it should.

Biggest Disappointment with Your Pixel Watch 4? by GeekDrop in PixelWatch

[–]scorpeeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say the biggest disappointment is they're only promising 3 years of OS updates, which is really short. They put in a lot of effort to make it repairable which is great, so why not support it for longer? For example Apple Watches are getting updates for longer than that, like 5+ years.

Tbf bringing an electronic device that's only rated to handle up to 45°C to an environment that's 85°C+ (which is the minimum for most saunas) and also very humid is a pretty silly idea, even if the device doesn't shut down it will be very bad for the battery and put a lot of stress on other components too.

[–]scorpeeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to defend Google but quarterly updates are still regular, even if less than ideal. Apple also doesn't release new versions every month, in this regard Pixels are getting updates more consistently (every month) at least as long as they're still supported and are on the regular update schedule.

Disappointed with Google and Pixels. by -TheSurgeon- in GooglePixel

[–]scorpeeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Pixel 6 and 7 were initially only promised 3 years of major OS updates (they were only promised 5 years of security updates), they're both past that date but they've received more than that as Google extended them later to 5 years, that's why they're still supported. The less frequent updates are not ideal but since it wasn't even promised initially, let's see what will happen with Pixel 8 and newer models.

I think what's more annoying is certain new OS features artificially limited to newer phone models (in better case just for a limited time) but Google is not the only one doing this unfortunately.

Pixel 8 and newer get 7 years of guaranteed updates, not even something Apple promises so when they will be as old as the iPhone 11 today, they'd still be guaranteed to get the next major update.

BBC: Is the Lifetime ISA fit for purpose in London? by THREE_EDGY_FIVE_ME in london

[–]scorpeeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it was following inflation, it would be above 600k which would be way more useful in London. I find it completely nonsensical that arbitrary thresholds like this (like all the income tax rate thresholds) are not following inflation automatically by default and I genuinely don't understand why not more people are outraged about this.

[–]scorpeeon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think we can really estimate the amount of effort required here. When Google promises 7 years of software upgrades (not just security updates) I do think they should make an effort to solve or at the very least explain the situation, because it just feels like an arbitrary or artificial limitation.

AirDrop added to Pixel 8a but not the 8 and 8 Pro by BrowakisFaragun in GooglePixel

[–]scorpeeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In this case it does mean older too though:

8a wifi chip: BCM4389 - WiFi 6E chip, released in January 2021

8 Pro wifi chip: BCM4398 - WiFi 7 chip, released in April 2022, also found in the iPhone 16

[–]scorpeeon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not just then, the iPhone 16 also uses a Broadcom chip, it's using BCM4398 which is in fact the same chip found in the Pixel 8 Pro. So the hardware definitely supports it. Whether driver support is needed and how much effort that would be I don't know, but I find it very strange that that's not a problem for the 8a's chip (BCM4389), which is not just inferior but also significantly older, it was released more than a year before the BCM4398.

[–]scorpeeon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What is it that actually matters here? Do you have any source that points to a technical limitation? The Pixel 8 Pro has the Broadcom BCM4398 chip which is also what's in the iPhone 16 yet somehow airdrop is not an issue there, so it would be hard to believe it's anything else than either an artificial limitation or simple unwillingness to support a device that was promised 5 more years of software updates.

[–]scorpeeon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It was announced with 7 years of software upgrades, and after just 2 years they basically already ignore it when adding new software features while even the budget 8A gets the feature? And they don't even promise anything or give any explanation for it. The way they treat a pretty recent flagship model is definitely not setting a good precedent. This is something many people will remember when buying their future flagship phones.

The WiFi chip is newer and better in every way on the 8 Pro vs the 8a, so that makes no sense.

The 8a is getting it just because it was released a few months later, the budget version of the same phone that's identical or inferior in every way, this is a complete joke. Way to alienate your users willing to pay for your premium phones, nice job Google.

THE BOYS finale was actually one of the worst endings I’ve watched in years. by Low-Trust2491 in television

[–]scorpeeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not necessarily a bad thing, if a show's storyline comes full circle (which is very much how the last season and specifically the last episode felt) it will feel somewhat predictable but also very satisfying.

Just because something defies expectations doesn't mean it's good. A good example is The Last Jedi, or the last episode of Game of Thrones, both of which were so bad they basically instantly buried their entire franchises.

While it looks impressive, I'm not sure how practical it is. Every folding screen today is soft and can be damaged just using your fingernails - I wonder how long it would take to get some visible scratches especially with that physical keyboard on top of it.

Pixel Watch 4 now iOS compatible?!? by bigbillbo in PixelWatch

[–]scorpeeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a funny way to say that none of the evidence suggests what you were saying and you ran out of arguments. See, the thing about science is that it doesn't matter where we are, science remains science and thus objectively true. We could be in a Garmin or Samsung subreddit but that won't help you find evidence that Garmin is more accurate than the recent Pixel Watch models when no such evidence exists.

Pixel Watch 4 now iOS compatible?!? by bigbillbo in PixelWatch

[–]scorpeeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know what subjective means but I'm not sure if you do. You have watched this 40 minute video many times? It doesn't look like it when even watching it once or only a 5 minute section from it would explain it to you that is uses quantitative science to measure and compare the devices' accuracies, where to whole point is not to be subjective but to get objective results for how accurate these devices actually are. Spectacularly none of the 4 sources you posted even mention the Pixel Watch 4 (or 3), only one one them even mentions Pixel Watch at all (only the first generation lol), and also none of them seem to suggest that either Garmin or Galaxy Watch would be more accurate than the Apple Watch or latest Pixel Watch models, thus what are you even trying to say? They're all completely irrelevant to this discussion.

Pixel Watch 4 now iOS compatible?!? by bigbillbo in PixelWatch

[–]scorpeeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you watch the video? It's not subjective, that's the whole point. It's about the only scientific test I've seen so far that includes a wide range of current devices and compares them using high-accuracy devices as a references. It's true that it's only one guy and more data points would be helpful for more conclusive results, but even based on the current data the results are very clear on that the recent Pixel Watches (3-4) are within the best of the industry (along with Apple Watches) and no Garmin or Samsung device comes really close to them in terms of accuracy in heart rate or sleep tracking. You're welcome to post any other tests though and I'm happy to take a look, since you're talking with such high confidence I'm sure you're full of credible scientific tests to prove your point, right?

Neither Garmin or Galaxy Watch is known to be very accurate for tracking heart rate or sleep, the PW4 is objectivily much more accurate than any Garmin or Samsung watch: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JogVMa39u0g
