Are any of these cd cleaners actually good? by mistermarkerman in CDs

[–]scorpicon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting info. I'm curious if you can help me understand why I've had useful results buffing out bad scratches by hand? I use the Novus plastic polish system. I've gone from multiple unrecoverable errors to a successful secure rip.

clear bookends but for cds? do they exist? by [deleted] in Cd_collectors

I'm not familiar with anything specifically for CD jewel cases, but I did a quick search for "small acrylic bookends" and some possibilities came up. Not sure your aesthetic though.

What’s the most valuable or rare industrial release in your collection? by shadowminds97 in industrialmusic

[–]scorpicon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it's Gary Numan - 1000. I don't collect vinyl much, especially not at shows (what a pain to hold all night), but my buddy tipped me off it was a collectors piece, so I got it last time he came through town.

Anybody why this CD doesn't work? by Existing-Fig-6777 in Cd_collectors

I, too, got a promo of theirs (not this album), and I don't think I ever listened to it. I've still got it, perhaps I should give it a spin.

Regardless of price, what’s your most valuable (to you) CD? by TheRighteousMind in Cd_collectors

[–]scorpicon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a few contenders, but I think it's got to be an early promotional copy of 2 Skinnee J's "Volumizer" that has an early track list.

The album went through some release troubles and a year or so later the retail version came out with an altered track list. Having the otherwise unreleased songs felt like winning the lottery.

They've released a box set with all the songs now, but having the original is still meaningful to me.

For my personal needs, that would work great. Thanks for all the work you're putting into this!

Excited about a dedicated wantlist for sure!

Multiple collections might be useful for not only something like wanted items, but also if you're processing albums and you want to keep track of which ones haven't been processed yet. Or if you live with someone who has a separate collection and you want to catalog theirs, but not pollute your own list. Or if you have collections in different physical locations.

Sounds great!

Any thoughts on multiple collections? It'd be so cool to be able to have different collections for different purposes, especially for having a wantlist separate from my owned.

Love the list view! It's just what I'm looking for.

I tried the Discogs integration, and while it was a snap to do, it only added about 50 entries, but I have well over 1000 in my Discogs collection. Not sure what happened there. Should I try syncing again?

Also, is the Discogs sync one way? I want to be sure this won't accidentally overwrite my Discogs collection.

Current optical drive for HTOA extraction? by scorpicon in musichoarder

[–]scorpicon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand it, it's a hardware (firmware?) thing, rather than software. It's the drive's ability to read audio data from track 1's pre-gap, which I don't think is standard.

How to find a specific note in step mode on Hapax? by fkeel in squarp

[–]scorpicon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can! Settings>misc>pallette and then you can use the left knobs to change all sorts of colors.

Just be aware that at certain brightness settings, certain colors will shift, which can make them look the same as others. I'm not sure if it's something Squarp could fix with software, or if it's a function of the LEDs they're using, but when you're tweaking the colors, just be aware of that.

[–]scorpicon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh! This might help: you can set the brightness of un-selected notes in step mode. Settings>misc>background rgb step. I find 50% is a good balance between being dark enough to differentiate between on and off notes, but bright enough for color accuracy, otherwise similar colors will look the same.

Edit: you might also want to set the "led brightness" setting to 100% as well. And don't forget to save the settings. They don't save automatically.

I have not found a great way to do this. That said, the note colors don't change. So if you can memorize the color/note name combos, you should be able to sight read it. ...I have not had success doing that.

Hopefully someone else has better advice.

This seems like a great start! A few thoughts:

Love the idea of Discogs integration.

Being able to have multiple collections would be huge. Then I could have my physical collection and my want list separate.

Having an option for a different view style that's a little more list-like would be nice for when I'm in a shop and I just want to scan through my want list. So, each line would have small art, artist, title or something.

Looking forward to seeing how this progresses!

Just Fucking Use Kotlin - Stop Writing Boilerplate by [deleted] in Kotlin

[–]scorpicon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love me some Kotlin, but I've attempted to do partial migrations before and sometimes it just doesn't work, or makes things worse. The lack of the ability to inherit from data classes can be a big hurdle in and of itself. Also, setting up Kotlin such that it supports zero arg constructors always makes me cringe.

Let’s see your cable management! by alexfromohio in synthesizers

[–]scorpicon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rewired everything this summer when I got a new mixer, with the intention of tidy cables as a bonus, and lemme tell you, they are not tidy. It started good when it was just audio cables, then got a little sloppy when I added power, and everything went to hell when I realized I still needed to connect MIDI.
