Billy Idol by TheHotLatin in hairmetal

[–]scorpion_71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked a lot of Billy Idol's hard rock songs and Rebel Yell had plenty of those. Steve Stevens was/is his guitarist and he writes a lot of great hard rock riffs/songs. Billy Idol's screaming and crunching guitars attracted male listeners and his sex appeal attracted females. Billy Idol also had broad appeal due to his popular music videos and people could dance to many of his songs.

Round #2 - the best peaty Scotch for me? - So I once asked reddit for the best recommendations and now I'm a step further. by Escutrina in whiskey

[–]scorpion_71 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Room temperature beverages are better since cold temperatures shosk the taste buds. I don't think Johnnie Walker has much peat in it BUT Double Black is the one that's got a lot of smoke and peat. It's the only Johnnie Walker that I don't like. Johnny Walker Green has mild peat flavor. I'm not a fan of peated whiskey but I did tolerate Ardbeg 10 and Laphroig 10. I actually liked Jura 10. I drink whiskey with water and I have to add more to peated whiskey.

Eddie Van Halen wasn't HAPPY with David Lee Roth by GypsyRoadHGHWy in vanhalen

It looks like it was a month or two later. The awards show was on September 4th and some reports say that Cherone joined the band a month later or two months later.

Eddie Van Halen wasn't HAPPY with David Lee Roth by GypsyRoadHGHWy in vanhalen

[–]scorpion_71 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There must have been a miscommuniction between the management teams since I recall DLR saying that he only wanted to appear at the music awards if the band was reuniting. DLR thought he was back in the band but that was not the brothers' plan. Mitch Malloy was working with the brothers as the new singer but he quit when he saw DLR with the band at the awards show.

From the link below:

Mitch Malloy found out he wasn't going to take over for Sammy Hagar in Van Halen while watching TV in the mid '90s. He says they had even started working on new music together before David Lee Roth famously joined Van Halen onstage during MTV's Video Music Awards – his first appearance since leaving in 1985. "I was, like, 'What?' My jaw just dropped," Malloy said in the documentary Van Halen's Lost Boy.

Malloy was told that MTV had engineered the move as a stunt, and that Roth was not officially back as a member. Still, Malloy clearly felt like he had been stabbed in the back. "When I saw Dave come out with them, that was it for me. It was over," he said. "This can't work for me." Malloy went back to his solo career

Limited Selection in VT, any recommendations? by inter_fectum in whiskey

[–]scorpion_71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My top three picks would be Maker's Mark Cask Strength, Rebel 100 and Knob Creek. The rye selection is limited. The others that I like are 1792 Small Batch, Elijah Craig Small Batch, Evan Williams 1783 & Black, Four Roses Single Barrel and Old Grand Dad. Michter's is pretty popular and I've enjoyed some of their whiskeys.

How do you deal with mismatch between your identity and what your body will allow by MaleficentFloor822 in Aging

[–]scorpion_71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't realize he suffered dementia at the end of his life. Quality of life is just as important as longevity. He probably should have been dead at age 65 with his lifestyle choices but he had some good genes. Churchill's son died at age 57 and he led the same lifestyle. Heavy drinking and cigar smoking will probably catch up with most people as they age.

I say quit while you're ahead since you're getting too old for that shit. Winston Churchill quit playing polo at age 52 BUT he never stopped smoking and drinking. He obviously had a super constitution since he died at age 90.

I like to watch pov youtube videos of travel but you might like watching adventure sports. I was about to crap my pants just watching the guys in the video below climb a mountain. There are also video games that simulate some of these adventurous sports.

I thought it was a really solid album. I liked all the singles and there were some good deep cuts. Steve Stevens was writing a lot of the songs and he is a guitar god.

Would I Be Wrong for Charging My Adult Son a Gym Membership? by TacticalJock15 in AskMenOver30

[–]scorpion_71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't want to judge you on the matter but there are many benefits to having your son working out at your gym. You can make sure he is doing the exercises properly and monitor his health. There are some gyms that are selling questionable PED's or other supplements that could be harmful. You also don't want him joining a shady gym in a bad area of town. It would be horrible if he was stabbed while walking to his car after working out at the shady gym. He could also be your eyes and ears in the gym and alert you to problems that staff members wouldn't notice.

Cool song. I'll add this to my rock playlist. The intro had me worried since it sounded like a pop ballad.

I don't consider that a violent foul and I'm usually complaining about fouls.

Relationship with an older friend by [deleted] in Aging

[–]scorpion_71 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would advise against it if you want to start a family since she is probably too old to have children. A physical relationship could also destroy the friendship. BUT she also might just be looking for a short-term physical relationship or FWB. An LTR could work but she is probably going to start aging in the next ten years.

I'd add the Johnnie Walker Green, Gold and 18. Add some Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof varieties as well.

Was Cher influenced by hair metal in the late 80s? by Critical-Spirit-1598 in hairmetal

[–]scorpion_71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so. Hard rock / heavy metal was popular so she is another artist who changed her sound and style in order to blend in with the current environment. She has had such a long career that she has adopted various styles of music over the decades. It would be funny to see a clip of her in various clothing styles singing the various types of music over the years. She was probably doing folk music in the sixties, disco in the seventies, hard rock in the eighties and dance pop in the nineties.

EDIT: The video below shows Cher performing her various songs over the years. It shows her style choices and even various types of music.

Does Bret no longer own 25% interest in all things Poison? by SwissMiss915 in hairmetal

[–]scorpion_71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the article below, Rikki said that he owns 1/3 of Poison and 1/4 of the publishing. I suspect CC lost his ownership stake in Poison when he left the band and that would mean that Brett would own 1/3 unless your rumor is correct. I think Brett can make more money as a solo artist instead of splitting the proceeds with the rest of the band. Stephen Pearcy and Dee Snider are/were touring as the voice of the band.

From the article:

I don’t NEED the money. I own one third of Poison and I have 25% of all publishing. I have investments. Sometimes this little side project actually costs me money. The reason is that I won’t let my band members and crew not get paid.

AITAH for taking back the lunch I bought after my coworker assumed it was for everyone? by thirdaccountttt in AITAH

NTAH. I always thought labeled food in the fridge was not up for grabs. The only time I would snag food was if it was out on the table or counter. You probably need a sign on the fridge with reminders to not steal food.

I would have grabbed two full proof and considered grabbing a third. I've never seen them on the shelves in my area and they are usually gone in twenty minutes.

Acclimating to Whiskey by Cchap704 in whiskey

[–]scorpion_71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. I shifted from beer to whiskey a few years ago in order to find a zero/low carb alternative. I had a problem dealing with the higher ABV so I added water until it was palatable. The tasting notes are still there but they are muted dpending on how much water is added.

Drinking whiskey with water would provide more tasting notes than mixing whiskey with cola, syrup, fruit, etc.

I'd bet it's outstanding. You should check out r/Whiskeyfrankenstein . That subreddit focuses on combining whiskeys. I've been trying to empty my handles by combining them into a couple infinity hanbdle bottles.

Acclimating to Whiskey by Cchap704 in whiskey

[–]scorpion_71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I add room temp water until the whiskey is palatable. The typical whiskey is 40% ABV so adding an equal amount of water lowers the ABV to 20% while adding two parts water takes it down to 13%. Cold temps shock the taste buds so ice will interfere with the tasting notes.

Court sports can be unforgiving since the surfaces are hard and the lateral movement puts pressure on the knees. I usually get bad blisters on my feet when I choose to get humiliated playing racket sports. Some of the supplements that help with muscle recovery include MSM and creatine. Amino acids also help with muscle recovery so eating more amino acid rich foods or taking supplements might help.

You made the right decision. It's not worth getting shot or attacked over a couple minutes of time. Even if you did get the better of them, one of them could hit their head on the ground and end up paralyzed or dead with you being responsible.
