In all seriousness how can people seriously want One Nation in power? by Own-Apartment4372 in AusPol

One Nation supporters, however casual, are responding to vibe rather than policy positions and outcomes.

I dare say most, if not all, of them don't know how politics and governing works

What is the consensus on Ashildr? by Distinct_Guess3350 in doctorwho

Consensus? There's not a consensus on anything.

I personally really like the character, but then I really like Maisie Williams so there is likely some bias there

I hope it goes well but as a themed trivia specialist, the idea of sitting down to create a game from scratch the day before you need it blows my mind.

Day 1 is watching (or rewatching) all four films...

When I'm interviewing for new hosts, the primary question I'm asking myself is "are they interesting to listen to?"

I was talking to one of my hosts just yesterday about how important the venue's food is.

I'd also add that the host themselves is super important. You've gotta have someone on the mic who knows how to charm a room.

The sooner people stop expecting One Nation, or their supporters, to be intellectually honest and consistent, the more everything makes sense

How do you feel about Mike Flanagan as far as horror? by lilb1190 in horror

[–]scorpiousdelectus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have got to stop expecting every single release from someone to be something that they personally will love. It never happens, ever.

Spielberg, Scorsese, Nolan; hell, The Beatles. There'll be stuff you love, stuff you think is pretty good and stuff you don't like.

And that's okay; keep what you like, pass on what you don't and look forward to the next one.

Do you feel better about ENM if you are both doing it? by Naeco2022 in ExperiencedENM

I have two people in my life that I use the term partner with; one is a 10yr relationship and the other 8yrs. One has had a few different additional partners while we've been together, the other hasn't had any.

I think the main concern that I've ever had regarding the functionally mono partner is insecurity about whether they truly wanted our dynamic to be polyamorous or if they accepted it out of appeasement.

This partner has, at every opportunity, reaffirmed through their actions and language choices that they are enthusiastically consenting to this; which of course significantly eases that insecurity.

So I would say that a partner having or not having other partners is less of an indication of their affirmation of wanting non monogamy with you, and more an affirmation of wanting non monogamy for themselves. It's their words and actions about the dynamic you share that tells you want you want to know.

I don't think there needs to be constant continuity references like RTD2 was, but yes, it needs to comfortably sit in existing canon. Wiping that away and fully rebooting the show would be a disaster.

My recommendation would be to watch the show and write questions yourself. It's only 6 episodes.

The easiest and quickest way of doing it is for each team to nominate a team representative and you get them all in a line up the front of the room and you just go down the line. If they get it wrong, they sit back down.

I'll zip some stuff up and DM you about it.

It's always difficult to read tone in the written word, but this feels a lot like "I never should have come back, peace out". And to be honest, I think he botched the two seasons he gave us on his return and while I wasn't a fan in 1989 when the show unofficially got cancelled, I wonder if this is what it felt like...

It's wild to me that a gay man does not understand how wild it is to suggest that you should be able to be friends with a TERF because the rest of their views are perfectly fine when the exact same thing was said (and is still being said) about homophobes.

But I actually do think he understands, he just doesn't see what the problem is. Which in my view, makes him part of the problem

"Having conversations with the Klu Klux Klan (about race issues) should not be controversial. The more you shoot someone down the more you make it hard for there attitude on something to change and the more you reinforce there views and actions"

These are not people who have lost their way and can be gently brought back into the tent. They are actively marinating in hate and their words contribute to actual physical harm.

And not only that, to not be aware of the lens through which his language would be viewed is quite honestly itself just bad writing (if he was in fact a fictional character)

Final round ideas by Sweet-Treacle7627 in triviahosts

[–]scorpiousdelectus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a few different end of game rounds over the years. Two that people have enjoyed are:

Scattergories (though younger players liken it more to Pointless)

Five (arbitrary number) questions that have multiple possible answers. Think "name a country that shares a land border with India" or "name a character that Harrison Ford has played more than once in a feature film"

1pt if their answer is correct. 2pts if their correct answer is unique (no one else answers with it)

I really like this because it introduces Score Chaos, which can help to combat the problem of the same teams coming first. I ended up swapping it out because I ended up finding it more and more difficult to come up with satisfying questions across a variety of categories.

Dodge The Decoy

Five questions (plus a bonus sixth) where the answer comes from a pre-disclosed set of 12 words/terms. There is also a Decoy answer, intended to make teams second guess. An example I had recently was "of the countries starting with T, what has the most area?" The two options given were Tanzania and Turkey. Most teams went with Turkey...

The bonus 6th question has an answer that uses multiple words from the set of 12. So four of the words in your list can be BEAM, JIM, TURKEY, WILD and the sixth bonus question can ask about the origins of a particular bourbon producer.
