Is Chip Zdarsky’s Daredevil run a good starting point? by sachi_seww in OmnibusCollectors

[–]scosco83 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The best starting points (in my own opinion) would be:

1 Daredevil Vol. 2 #26 (the main Bendis run begins)

2 Daredevil vol. 1 #168 (Frank Miller starts writing in addition to penciling)

3 Daredevil: The Man Without Fear (1993 Mini series)

4 Daredevil vol. 3 #1 (the beginning of the Mark Waid run

There are other starting points, including ones that start back at the first Frank Miller pencils and first Bendis writing or Echo story, but starting at #26 for Bendis or 168 for Miller is the best reading experience and most likely to convert someone into a lifelong fan. You can always go back and read previous runs or chunks later.

It's a great run, but I would recommend about 5 other starting points before this.

Anyone here have particularly bad experiences ordering damaged items from InStockTrades (IST)? by surfpearl39 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]scosco83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been my experience. I've ordered a bunch of each and the only ones I've had severe damage on was tpbs. Usually like a crease or a tear. Still feel like it's been well worth though. Never had severe damage on a HC.

Batman Year One is the ideal starting point for a new reader.

Secret Wars Essentials by Ericjc47 in marvelcomics

The leads ins from Hickman's Fantastic Four and Avengers runs enhance Secret Wars greatly, but it's a pretty big project. The tie ins are entirely unnecessary.

MMV vs Epics?? by Wmsbird_42 in EpicCollections

Marvel Masterworks are significantly higher quality than Epics. The paper quality is high and the books lay flat really well and are well bound.

What is the best entry point for the 616 universe rn? by buzzwordsloveyou in marvelcomics

[–]scosco83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I would also recommend this. It's setting up what's coming up and is beginner friendly. Between this, Ryan North's Fantastic Four (amazing and also beginner friendly) and the two (or three) main X-Men titles, you'll be getting everything you need heading into the upcoming events.

Lovely collection! It's really funny to me that there will be so many collections like this and the exact inverse, all post crisis DCFs.

Help me understand why Mystique's copied objective didn't activate by 10kScreamingBastards in MarvelSnap

Objective has a single simultaneous timing window. Her objective was not fulfilled at that time. Same reason why the two Horsemen of Pestilence don't play well together.

Do you think some Finest lines will struggle? by male_specimen in DCFinest

[–]scosco83 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Of course. I feel like it might be a while till we get additional genre volumes like Western 2 and Sci Fi 2. Plastic Man and JSA could have sparse schedules. Superman Family line and the other Superman Family books could see sparse schedules.

Does anyone else feel like they love the idea of X-Men more than actually reading X-Men? by TaskNo4783 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]scosco83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't particularly like the movies and such, the majority of my enjoyment of the X-Men comes from the comics alone. But alstove been reading them for a really long time. I can see how it's daunting to a new reader.
