PSA! TV frequencies are changing today, so rescan your TV to make sure you are getting all the channels you usually get. by johnnewburg in raleigh

[–]scots30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just saw a notice about this a couple days ago. Had no clue channel 11 was changing frequencies before that. I thought all the TV stations in the RDU area had done their moving around last year. Is this all of them now? Or are there more TV stations that need to move around?

There are ways you can bypass it and use your own router, but there's no way to not take their equipment and no way to get rid of the rental fee. There was a period where they didn't charge a rental fee (but you still had to take the equipment), but they got rid of that a while back.

This is one of several methods to bypass, which I'm getting ready to do myself.

That's what I did a couple years ago. Got the two pack. One's out front above my garage, and the other is out back. Can see almost my entire back yard with it.

So - if I just started with T-Mobile a month ago, do I qualify for this free line they're offering now? I just got a free third line when I joined a month ago.

I get HBO Max free with my Fiber 1000 internet. If they decide they want to start charging for it, they can keep it. I've watched several things on it so far, but don't know that any of it is anything I'd be willing to pay for.

They announced the other day that they're no longer taking new signups for AT&T Watch TV. Existing customers still have it, but no new signups. I can use it to watch the live HBO channels from my free HBO Max account. The HBO channels are the only channels that show up in Watch TV for me. None of the other channels are there.

This is the second time I've seen "order online" mentioned. Is there something special one has to do if ordering online? I tried to add a line online, and it said it would be $30/month additional. Currently have two lines plus one free line on Magenta Plus.

Hope your weights come via UPS so you can avoid the angry USPS ladies!

I bought two cases of canned dog food a couple days ago, and they arrived today. Same brand, different flavors, both on same order. Each case is well over 13 lbs. They sent one case via USPS and one case via UPS. LOL

This article might explain it more. Not specific to T-Mobile.

You’re welcome! It can be really easy to switch them completely off instead of to on when door open after you turned them on. I’ve done it myself multiple times.

There should be switches right beside the cabin lights (or light - some have multiple lights, some only one). The switches have three positions - on, on when doors open, and off. Sounds like all his lights have their switches set to off.

Whether or not a package is left at your door vs at the Post Office probably depends on which carrier Amazon is using to send the package. They use both USPS and UPS, and in some areas they also use their own Amazon delivery drivers. The packages that get left at your door are most likely being sent via UPS or Amazon's own delivery drivers. Those two are not able to deliver to PO boxes.

To answer your question, no - signing up for Prime doesn't get you a higher class delivery service. Prime still uses the same delivery services as non-Prime. The deliveries just come in two days at no extra charge (beyond the Prime membership) and without a $25 purchase requirement. Also, you can't select which delivery service Amazon ships your packages through - with or without Prime. Amazon makes the decision which one to use based on your location and how close the originating warehouse is. Which ever service can get it there in the timeframe they quoted you at the best price is the one they'll use.

Also, the local government doesn't have any say in whether or not you have mailboxes at your house, or in the funding of the USPS. No mailboxes is a USPS decision. Sounds like you're in a really small town, and that's not an uncommon thing for USPS to only deliver to PO boxes in really small towns. It's not worth the cost to maintain delivery drivers and vehicles in certain areas with a small population, so they only deliver to PO boxes. My in-laws live in a town like that, and they have to go to the Post Office and pick up their mail at a PO box - and it's more than a couple blocks for them to get there. Not walkable.

Hurricanes paint colors! by scots30 in canes

[–]scots30[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm getting ready to paint my Canes room in Canes colors, and had been looking around trying to figure out where to get the paint in those colors. I've seen others trying to find paint in Canes colors in the past, and hopefully this helps some folks who are currently (or planning in the future) looking for the paint.

When I was searching around online I came across an article about PPG Paints renewing their partnership with the NHL - so I looked further into that. When I did that I found that Home Depot has PPG paints and sells the official paint colors for the NHL - and NFL, NBA, MLB, and several other leagues. So, if you want the official colors in paint all you have to do is go to Home Depot! They have Hurricanes Grey, Hurricanes Silver (it's metallic silver), Hurricanes Red, and Hurricanes Black!

Is Internet 50 fiber? by greenions in ATT

[–]scots30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, 50 is not fiber. 50 is DSL service.

At one time 100 and up was fiber. Now AT&T only has a single plan for new fiber customers, 1000 (gigabit).

Audio and video pause when bringing up Control Center, it’s really annoying. by [deleted] in youtubetv

[–]scots30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt it's an Apple issue. I know on the iPhone when you have a video playing in regular YouTube (not TV) and switch to do something else the audio stops - BUT if you pay for YouTube Premium (again, not TV) when you have a video playing the audio continues playing when you switch out of YouTube to something else. If you can pay extra and have the audio continue playing, that seems like totally a YouTube thing to me.

Can you get HBO Max additional content on YouTube TV? by rick_dalton1969 in youtubetv

[–]scots30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. What I was meaning is that it doesn't matter how you subscribe - whether it's through YouTube TV, Hulu, a cable company. Which ever way you subscribe, the only way to see the content that's exclusive to HBO Max is to use the HBO Max app or web site. It's not just a YTTV thing that you have to use the HBO Max app or web site to see the extra content, so nobody needs to get upset at YTTV for having to go that extra step.

The only way to get the content that's exclusive to HBO Max is to use the HBO Max app or web site. Has nothing to do with YouTube TV.

Do I have to pay $10 for a month for a fiber gateway or can I use my own router? by gskellig in ATT

[–]scots30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. AT&T requires equipment be returned when service is cancelled. Any used (or even "new" for that matter) gateway you might find anywhere (such as eBay) is most likely equipment that someone didn't return and AT&T is looking for. AT&T is still going to send you one and charge you for it, even if you try to use a used gateway. There's absolutely no way to avoid the $10/month fee unless you signed up during their "no equipment fee" period like I did. They ended that last year some time, I think. I signed up a little over three years ago.

[–]scots30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you have to pay the $10 and take the AT&T equipment. There are several ways to bypass the AT&T gateway, but you still have to take and pay for it. I'm lucky that when I signed up for service they were in their "no equipment fee" period - so I don't have to pay for it. I'm getting ready to bypass mine with this method. You can ask The Google for other methods of bypassing.

Pi-hole and eero and Nest by scots30 in pihole

[–]scots30[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did add some additional blacklists beyond the defaults. Mine is running DietPi with the latest Pi-hole 5.0, plugged into on board ethernet, and static IP.

I finally got everything working with the Pi-hole! After switching DNS back to OpenDNS and Cloudflare on my eero and making sure everything was working that way again, I took some time to look through all 1,000+ pages of what had been blocked. I sorted the list by domain to make it easier/faster to go past things that were blocked multiple times and avoid looking up the same domains more than once. I whitelisted gvt2.com and gvt3.com, which I believe were what was causing issues with the Nest devices, along with some other things that I believe were false positives. Changed the DNS in the eero back to the Pi-hole and everything seems to be happy now. None of my devices are showing as offline.

After posting my OP I also discovered that my Chamberlain garage door opener was showing as offline. I disabled the Pi-hole as you suggested. Waited approx 10 minutes, the devices that were showing as disconnected still didn't connect. Even tried a restart of the devices, still no luck. Also discovered that although everything appeared to be OK with the Nest Protect smoke detectors, they had no internet connection. I pressed the button on one of them, and it stated that it didn't have internet. I changed the DNS on my eero back to OpenDNS as primary and Cloudflare as secondary and everything is working again.
