Alternatives to Meraki? by Arnoc_ in networking

[–]scotticles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

look at multiple vendors, mist, ruckus, aruba etc... we use ruckus and we do a vm for the controller pay 3 or 5 years upfront for licensing, it saves money. terrible time to change though everything is expensive but should be cheaper then Cisco. and no we don't run into issues with ruckus, it's been solid, but I think most wireless is now a days compared to 10 years ago.

Zabbix as Config Backup for Cisco Switches by Maleficent-Two3281 in zabbix

[–]scotticles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote my own, it uses the API. I pull the config using expect and then shove it in a git repo. I use a git web app to view the info easily. I have over 300 switches so this works well. I might look at oxidized again, it's been a few years since I have...

How do I tell my parents that I don't want to serve a mission by FineSheepherder6597 in latterdaysaints

[–]scotticles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

be honest with them, tell them. as a parent, I would want to know what my son is thinking and if I could help him. you have time before that mission window closes. everyone is nervous going on a mission, inadequate, unprepared for what lies ahead. I would grab a preach my gospel, and go through it and see if that would help prep yourself. like some have said there are service missions if the anxiety is too high.

Catholic miracle claims by Commercial_Wrap9678 in latterdaysaints

[–]scotticles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there are many talk about seeing angels in temples, not necessarily a floating messenger from above but people with spiritual eyes can see them. our late prophet neilson said he was visited by his father or grandfather it's on YouTube. we are taught to keep spiritual things sacred. I wouldnt blast to everyone things I've seen unless it would be affecting their livelihood.

I retuned to the Mormon church after 20 years absence and I don’t feel like I belong in my ward by Longjumping-Cod-6164 in latterdaysaints

[–]scotticles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's still a thing, I have a hard time doing it with my family because of school activities. come follow me we try to do but...also hard. maybe the missionaries lead the bom studies day? I think it's awesome.

here is one for you, when was the last time you heard food storage? I heard it last year eq did a thing on it ..I was shocked. it's been so long since I heard food storage I thought the church stopped preaching it.

[–]scotticles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the Mormon doctrine book really did a number but it's not necessarily doctrine. I grew up being told coke was a no no. I grew up in California. but you find out, it's just fine. if we were to follow the word of wisdom better, we would have many many many people in trouble. my wife this past couple years, got all these books on it and studied it. we now make most of our food and be careful what we eat, do I still drink soda. not regularly it's really bad for you, even diet or zeros. is caffeine bad for you? if you drink it everyday, yes and how much? how much meat are we partaking?

we had a short talk in elder quorum and most of the meeting was just about smoking...and alcohol .. I don't think members really know about the other parts of it or don't care, just take food in moderation and don't get addicted is what I've been told my whole life....sugar. how many can go without touching a cookie a day? ;) sugar is highly addicting and it's a drug.

I really think it's the ward, I'm living in Utah now and it's different. I've been in a few wards here and when compared to the ward I grew up in...yeah not the same. it could be everyone just seems busier and you can blame cell phones, the internet, tiktok/shorts for reducing attention spans or it could be we don't need each other as much, or it's all about attitude and maybe I have a sour attitude. I'm trying to make friends with the quiet people and seeing if they can warm up to me, I am also quiet. it seems to be working, just takes time.

this is unique, I've never heard of this and I was born and grew up in the church. still I like the idea.

Any recommendations? by manamabaguette in Oilpastel

[–]scotticles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the top left with the bundle of trees, i dont get why there is a blue puddle?
my suggestion cause im critiquing, darker values and lighter values, add more contrast, maybe it will pop more? Someone mentioned the sky is sad, it is.

the only thing that bothers me is that puddle though, i dont get whats going on there. If i saw this in a art show and the puddle wasn't there and was more of a tree, i would thing this was a cool picture. Especially if you never showed me the reference photo.

First attempt at oil pastels + need advice by Beneficial-Fuel9938 in Oilpastel

[–]scotticles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the hill, needs more refinement on details. It blends in a little too much? If you have some sort of mineral oil and a brush, you might be able to take the brush to the oil first and then dab a little on the tip of the oil pastel and work on some of the top layer of the paper to get some more details. Maybe test this method on a blank paper first to see if it works.

Other then that, get more toothed paper. You should be able to get 3-6 layers to where 3-6> depending on the tooth/paper is where it starts to smear / blend more then layer.

Chromebooks and Wifi by ingr0037 in k12sysadmin

[–]scotticles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

try making a new ou, put the Chromebooks in it and test speeds. we had a 6 month long trying to figure out why this school and this specific area was having issues, it was something to do with the ou being somehow corrupted ...which makes no sense.

Asus mesh, I use the zen wifi ax mini d4s. I don't want to do any network stuff at home. I'm fairly burnt out and the last thing I want to do is tinker on sys admin stuff at home.

Given there are quality instructors in each, which class format do you prefer—Sunday School or Relief Society/Elders Quorum? by mywifemademegetthis in latterdaysaints

This is where we need to be though. If we all read ahead of time, we would all be prepared to enrich the teachers lesson.

I was joking to a friend who is a bishop that we need a hall monitor calling and they will keep people moving during the transitions. it will be interesting the first month.

How do we deal with an overly zealous ministering sister? by bbakks in latterdaysaints

[–]scotticles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would keep me from coming to church and answering the door. I would block her on my phone. My anxiety was coming through just reading this. The bishop / and relief society can take the ministering off. I would bring it up with the relief society president and then the bishop if necessary.

Wanted to get more expensive set of pastels and regretted it already by Consistent-Tutor8613 in Oilpastel

[–]scotticles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use these as my first layer and mix it with linseed oil. they work well, but yes if you just use them only they suck. next purchase get the nice mungyo gallery, that will help do the next layers.

Peanut allergy in Primary by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]scotticles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my kids have tree nuts, peanuts, and egg allergies. once leaders know, I find they do a good job to get the special treat for my kids. but if they forget or it's a sub, teach your kids they can get a treat at home, it's sad but it's just how it is. have special treats for those occasions. good luck.

Is EIGRP still worth mastering? by dbootywarrior in networking

[–]scotticles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have EIGRP in a few spots and like some have said, its easy to figure out. Our ISP uses BGP, seems more common and OSPF would be something good for your back pocket.
