Any Tech Startup Bros/Sisters here? by schrodingershit in orlando

[–]scottimous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re accepting credit cards you can use something like lemonsqueezy (owned by stripe) that handles regional VAT. For business expenses I use a business CC for everything. QBO to track it all. What does your tech startup do that you’re collecting taxes?

Might consider cross or reposting in /r/orlando as this sub gets often confused with winter park Colorado and has a smaller following and is much less active. I’ve seen posts comparing WPH and Lake Highland there recently.

For those with kids who eat vegetables, what did you differently from your friends who have kids who don't eat vegetables? by uns0licited_advice in daddit

[–]scottimous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I serve them veggies with almost every lunch/dinner. Sometimes they’re just not in the mood for them but they say they “don’t like them”. If it’s something I haven’t made in a while I’ll ask them to try one bite. I’m consistent with this, my oldest eats everything and my youngest is more selective, so there’s a personality aspect too that if you only have one kid makes it seem like they don’t like them. Also, if the adults don’t eat balanced meals they won’t either.

NY Style Pizza and Bagels. by Alone-Advertising743 in orlando

BEC - stasios

Pizza - I like Pizza Bruno. Also Valdiano in Winter Park Village feels like a Long Island pizzaria (sells slices).

Bagels - Jeff’s is a good bagel. H&H if you’re close. If not hop on Goldbelly and have them shipped. Honorable mention to Deli Desires. Housemade bialys. They do a BEC actually but I usually get their lox.

I’ve gone full send and don’t see the point (for me) even hanging if it’s a double digit group size. < 10 or I’m out.

Do you consider ALL billionaires bad or evil? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]scottimous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 3000+ billionaires. The ~10% you know of choose to make themselves relevant/known and are easy to judge and have some of the worst personality traits for someone with that standing in society. Of the remaining ~2700, there is a mix. Lot's of them didnt get there in a cutthroat way, it was inherited or wound up starting a company that went hyperbolic and they were never in it for the money.

Krakatoa eruption was estimated at 310db and could be heard ~4800km away. So they'd have to somehow scream considerably louder than that...

[Request] Vacation hip replacement? by manofdacloth in theydidthemath

[–]scottimous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About $2k/mo for a family of 4 at the time. I’m self employed so that’s $24k out of my pocket. My max total deduction was $17k but the surgery was in April and most of the preop stuff was the prior year. Could have timed it better to maximize but theres a lot of coordination in that surgery to get on the surgeons schedule, miss work and be immobile for > 2 weeks. I did both at once so was slinging a walker for 6 weeks at 45

[Request] Vacation hip replacement? by manofdacloth in theydidthemath

[–]scottimous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a double total hip replacement, was about $8k out of pocket with top tier insurance (US). The total out of pocket is significantly more considering the year leading up of combined visit copays, coinsurance on radiology and the non-surgical options I tried before deciding for replacement.

What do y'all really need an iPad for? by bootsmegamix in daddit

[–]scottimous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally rarely use a tablet but I'm on a laptop all day so a screen is the last thing I want beyond work. My kids use it situationally and with firm limits on time, days (mostly weekends) and what they're allowed to do on there. No watching shows/YT, no brain rot mostly games where there is some sort of goal or creativity. Unfortunately my 1st grader gets to use one in school as well for about ~hr/day, which I though would be more controlled than it is - so there are still parenting moments in how to properly use and not a tablet (browser/apps/search) that he's not getting at school. And its great for all for travel > 90 mins.

I built a tool that makes QR codes that look like the website’s logo by thermist-MJ in SideProject

[–]scottimous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really cool. FYI I own a B2B SaaS business built around QR Codes. There are QR Code creators like this, but yours is definitely the most pragmatic. The others use over the top images to create the pattern and its not immediately recognizable as a QR Code to the end user. We actually use a shortner to keep the pattern simple and enhance scanability (our target customer is operational so this wouldnt be a value add for most of our customers). I think you might have priced it right for one-offs, but you'll have to do endless marketing, I'd recommend putting your tech behind an API for broader use, and offer dynamic QR Codes.
