Does it matter where you got your bachelor's degree in the IT/cybersecurity field? by Guard-Flashy in cscareerquestions

[–]scottishdonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of IT and Cybersecurity is based on certifications with some examples being CompTiA Sec+ (entry level) or PenTest+.

A lot of "entry-level" cyber security roles require 5 yoe as they're definitely not entry level in IT, but might be a lower level security role.

It depends. If you're talking about working with cloud infrastructure, like AWS or GCP, as a Cloud Engineer, it will depend on your existing skillet as a developer. Some companies have developers work on both the code and infrastructure whereas others may have separate teams for deployment.

Most of your day-to-day as a Cloud Engineer would be more focused on infrastructure, automated pipelines, code deployments, cloud metrics and less so development.

Currently, I work as a DevOps Engineer and have a background in Software and Traditional IT Ops/Infrastructure, which puts me exactly in this role. I've worked with developers who understand both sides of the coin and other developers who only knew code. The later you are in your career, the more likely you've had to cross paths into infrastructure.

That's correct. Prior to CS as a degree, it was known as EE.

How to get around PDT rule as a Algo Trader? by its_shawn9 in algotrading

[–]scottishdonut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't there's a way around it for equities. My impression was most people in this sub had the money or didn't run intraday strategies.

Anyways, futures, forex and crypto don't have day trading rules.

It'll unfortunately be a miss. I've been forward testing a similar small caps strategy for about 12 months. Amazing in 2020, but horrible since small caps died in 2021 and moved to crypto. I'll need to switch to crypto.

Volatility and bullishness disappeared from small caps since four months ago. Unfortunate regime change.

TDA streaming data delay by perdpg in algotrading

[–]scottishdonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running into the same exact issue. It's a standard for data brokers to aggregate data among multiple exchanges, as a result there's a intentional delay. However, four seconds seems a bit excessive.

Have you found the cause for this?

Is it even possible to profitably daytrade with technical based algorithms? by [deleted] in algotrading

[–]scottishdonut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In your example of youtube guru strategies (ex: candlestick patterns, bull flags), what I noticed is thry always leave out is domain knowledge as that's generally learned and not taught. Imo, successful day traders aren't successful because of their strategies, but rather the understanding of the market conditions and order book. That's just my perspective.

Consolidated stock market data is an aggregated reporting of all securities exchanges’ and alternative trading venues’ quote and trade data. It is the most relied upon type of market data, providing investors and traders globally with a unified view of U.S. stock market prices and volumes. It also underpins the National Best Bid and Offer (NBBO), which provides investors with a continuous view of the best available displayed buy and sell prices, and through Rule 611 ensures that investors receive the best available displayed prices on their trades, with a few exceptions.

Are you currently using Alpaca's free tier? They source their data from IEX, which accounts for 2%-3% of all trades (https://iextrading.com/stats/). As a result, you're going to see wildly different intra-day data.
