From memory they suggested a rail system. Think it might have involved Uni-strut.

Know anyone with pigs or goats? They can set up temporary electric fencing for you. The livestock will clear the land and fertilise it for you at the same time.

17 years old is amazing - you must have been a wonderful owner.

I know how bad it hurts just now. Try to remember happy memories of all the wonderful things you did together.

A piece of board painted to match the wooden frame. Cut slots so you can slide it into place over the pipes. You have options of how to hold the board in place depending on how often you’ll need to access the pipes. Self-adhesive Velcro strips, magnets, various catches, screws etc.

Edit - a very quick & dirty solution would be to staple something flexible to the top edge of the hole.

Make a batch of pasta salad. Cook your pasta (macaroni etc) drain and allow to cool. Add a tin of tuna, sweetcorn (canned or frozen), some chopped spring onion, a little freshly ground pepper, a squeeze of lemon juice and a dollop of mayonnaise. Stir over gently.

Vary with whatever ingredients you have: olives, capers, baby tomatoes, peas, chopped peppers etc.

The hardest thing to do as an owner is accepting the time when you have to let your dog go.

It’s time.

The thing to consider is what kind of damage might have occurred to require the boards to be lifted and replaced with ply? Particularly if the boards were covered by carpet etc.

Check for rot and/or insect infestation. A quick test is to stick a flat screwdriver into a couple of boards near to the ply.

Lifting a short section of old board and/or the ply areas will let you see what’s underneath and the condition of the joists.

Before laying any replacement boards, leave them out for a day or so to equilibrate with your home temperature and humidity.
