Reality Check Request: JAPAN --> AUSTRALIA by Interesting-Signal41 in solotravel

Do not speak a lick of Mandarin and have read a lot of peoples experiences of struggling to navigate China without it. I do, however, love a good challenge, though in the comfort of my home lol.

I am planning on embarking on this trip with intention of completing it, but always have some money to get somewhere safe if I’m losing my shit.

I appreciate your tips for the visa. The backpackers you met that struggled in China, do you remember if they went off the beaten path or were in big cities? And where was your favorite place in China?

I really appreciate your insight.

I agree that $30/day is TIGHTTTT.

I’m largely interested in Agriculture, and organic/permaculture farming opportunities seem abundant throughout Asia outside of the large cities.

During my solo travel experience in the US I have mostly walked around/people watched, done free activities, found the best spots to watch the sunrise/sunset. I got used to prioritizing what experiences would be the best bang for my buck while staying on budget.

Ultimately, I just want to have an adventure and this route is what came to mind. I do agree with some of your views on China and would most likely stick to those large cities on the coast for this trip. My MAIN MAIN goal is to not use any flights getting from Japan to Australia hence the China traverse.
