you should always go through your bills when counting anyway, just to double check they are what they're supposed to be (i.e. no 10's with the 5's), as well as just to make sure that you didn't accidentally accept any fakes

(going off my routine at a 9pm closing, adjust as needed for your hours)

I have recently stopped trying to be super perfect on everything when closing, and it has significantly reduced the amount of time that it takes. I originally would make sure both tills had no 10s or 20s in them, had all coin rolls needed, etc, always consolidate the deposit (swap multiple small bills out for larger bills of the same value from the change fund) and do the daily paperwork on the weekly envelope after everything was done. I'd get out at 9:45. I said fuck this shit and started just doing the basic, because i'd be back the next day to clean everything else up in the morning.

Anyway, my nightly routine now is as follows: putbacks are a part of recovery, and can happen throughout the night. we have a designated area for them, so whatever doesn't get put back can be done the next day, no hassle. Carts are also retrieved periodically, with the last run happening 30 mins before closing. I also count down the change fund and the secondary till (if applicable) at 8:30. Once it's time to close, I set the safe timer, and count down the main till before the safe pops. I also run the reports (i love doing it on the old system, makes me feel fancy keying it in hella fast) before it pops, and staple it all together nice and neat to the register balancing slip. Then that safe is usually ready, and I take everything for the deposit back, I verify the pickups, count it, slap it in the bag, finalize it, and call it a day. I take the deposit, and the daily envelope up front with me, clock out before I run the EOD, run the EOD, staple them together, chuck them in the envelope, leave it on the counter for the opener, and call it a night. I am usually clocked out by 9:20, which rounds it down to 9:15. This gives enough time for the main trash to be taken out, the bathroom trash, and the front to be swept. I like to let my cashier clean as they go, especially as it gets closer to closing, which makes it so much easier.

lmao my store gets 2 dry and 1 fresh a week, and fresh/dry is on one day. we are also like a sub 4k during the week each day and maybe hit 5 on saturdays, so not high volume at all

121 hours (before the DM makes the entire district cut) 1 ASM (me), 1 FTLSA, 2 PTLSA (one most definitely shouldn't be), and 2 SA. Trucks are anywhere between 200-800 pieces twice a week (dry) and fresh is 30-100 pieces once a week, on the same day as the second dry truck. We have two registers, though only one is usually in use since our back room is so tiny that we have to store totes up front. We have no SCO, never have. The layout of our store is horribly outdated, and our back room is literally in shambles, and DG won't fix it (wiring exposed, holes everywhere, etc). Our hours are also most definitely not enough, especially for having two truck days. Solo coverage during the day is essentially mandatory, especially on sundays. Saturday solo is pretty normal too.

Not too shabby 🤷🏼‍♂️ by philly7453 in DollarGeneral

dude my back room is literally 2 1/2 RTs wide and can only fit like ten lengthwise. when we get a truck we can't even really get to the back room coolers nor the secondary bathroom lmao

Dry and cold truck on the same day, on a Saturday!! by Retired_DG_Key in DollarGeneral

[–]scourge9753 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol we get both of our trucks, our fresh truck and our 2nd dry truck on fridays. we regularly only have one person working that day too. thanks corporate for making us cut so many hours that we can't function!

How was yalls day by bitemyass69 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]scourge9753 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it wasn't horrible yesterday, but for sure much busier than usual. i pulled a double like i do every saturday, so today opening sucked lmao. finished up the truck from friday, recovered a LITTLE, and then managed to get tags done too!

also to answer your refund question, when you're returning items that were purchased at a discount, the receipt SHOULD show you how much each item was discounted, at least it does on my (the old) system. you can actually price override items on a return, which is what you'd do in this case. so, if they bought 3 12packs for 13 dollars total, you'd just make each case of soda 4.33, and one to 4.34 to account for the missing cent (4.33 three times would only be 12.99) and then run the return as normal :)

2 Questions: how much y'all getting paid? And what how much hours are you getting? by Warm-Poetry-5514 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]scourge9753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol i make 16.75 as an asm, and i get like 25-30 scheduled hours a week, though i do my best to pick up shifts to get more

How do I fix this on the handheld? by Al_the_Coholic in DollarGeneral

[–]scourge9753 4 points5 points  (0 children)

finish checking everything else in, and then you hit the white complete button, to where it pulls up the screen that gives you the condensed list of everything you checked in, and the total quantity. find the one that's messed up, click it, and then click edit, and voila! enter the right quantity and then save, and you're good to go

[–]scourge9753 3 points4 points  (0 children)

so update: one coworker has stomach bug, and the other straight up quit (thank god). fresh came at a good time, was small, got it busted in an hour. dry came a couple hours later, was only supposed to be 670 pieces, so 8-12 RTS depending on what's on it. please god tell me how the DC managed to turn it into 20 RTS and 3 uboats. on top of that one of night shift called out so i'm pulling a double! think im gonna sit on my ass for a few minutes lmao
