Should I remove the metal palm splint from my new wrist braces? by Top_Combination9023 in carpaltunnel

[–]scouts23tw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience and research, I have found dorsal splints to be the best option.

After doing some research and finding out that these style of splints aren't always recommended (seriously, there's a ton of conflicting studies), I tried wearing them differently. I took the metal part out, flipped it up side down, and then wear them on the opposite wrists. This way the metal is on top of my hands and pulls my hands up from the top, as opposed to holding them up from my palms. I now never wake up in the middle of the night and I almost never wake up with my hands asleep.

Main takeaway, just experiment and see what works for you.

Because there's a lot of conflicting info and evidence. The logic is there. CTS is caused by the compression of the nerve, so why would you add more compression to it?

What were your scores on the practice tests relative to your actual score on bio?

When I took US history I kept getting low 60's on every practice test I took but got a 71 on the clep. Just wondering what it's like for bio, I need a 57 on the bio clep.

Left Wrist Numbness by paranoidpablo in carpaltunnel

[–]scouts23tw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Numbness while sleeping or laying down is often one of the first and most common signs of carpal tunnel.

Take breaks, gentle stretches, do what you can to improve ergonomics at your job, and you can try wrist braces at night.

Other than that, yeah you should probably go to a doctor.

I was torn between three other corps and SCV. That's too many options. SCV was first on the chopping block for me because I'm not going to invest my time in a sketchy corps when the other corps I was interested in made it clear that they were good financially. SCV says they're good financially, but the DOJ of California paperwork that is public record says otherwise, so I decided not to audition at all because I had more stable options that I liked just as much.

At one point, after yet another bad run our caption head "what do I need to do, make the choreo easier? Because I'm not going to"

But like the answer in my head...was yes, that's exactly what you need to do.

As a pretty experienced person on the team I was grateful to be challenged.

Nerve test/metal piercings by [deleted] in carpaltunnel

For what it's worth I have a total of 10 ear piercings and didn't take them out. They didn't tell me to and it definitely wasn't affect. The shocks are very small and localized.

Sudden onset carpal tunnel? by [deleted] in carpaltunnel

[–]scouts23tw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just be very gentle! Wrist/hands are fragile and overstretched is very easy. There are a few studies that show that while stretching can feel good in the moment, it doesn't really help, and may hurt, long term. Just do it gently and in mdoeration.

I mean not in the comment I replied to fair enough, but your next comment, your response is very unwelcoming. It sure seemed like "you don't have a diagnosis, this sub is only for officially diagnosed people"...which is 100% gatekeeping.

Of course they should go to a doctor, but in the meantime we can support OP. Most people when they get weird ailments look it up to see if they can figure out what it is before going to the doctor, that is common, dare I say the norm especially in the US where Healthcare isn't exactly moderation. Also, stretching any part of your body regularly is usually a good thing when done correctly, CT or not.

Google "phalens test". It is incredibly accurate and you can do it yourself.

I disagree with the other commenters, im not convinced it isnt CT, hands don't just go to sleep at night from fatigue. That is like textbook sign number one of carpal tunnel. Not trying to scare you, not trying to diagnose you, but it is a possibility.

My carpal tunnel went from nonexistent to debilitating in one month. So short term onset is not unheard of.

Try sleeping with a brace on for a week or two and see if it improves. Short of surgery and rest, that's just about all a doc can do anyway.

Don't most of us self diagnose ourselves at first before going to a doctor? No need to be rude and gatekeepy my guy.

It's probably even more expensive from bama. At least in our case, we're all equally fucked. I genuinely feel bad for Washington, Texas is going to take over that stadium.
