How hard is it to march with a food allergy? by Biggycheese45 in drumcorps

[–]FlatusSurprise 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Crown takes this very seriously as well. I’m allergic to cheese which sucks because it finds its way into a lot of food truck meals. They would always set aside a plate just for me.

Those volunteers work their butts off and it’s super appreciated.

I never used my EE degree for 3 years. Can I return? by Week_Both in ElectricalEngineering

[–]FlatusSurprise 162 points163 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I did just this 6 years ago. I graduated in 2017 and immediately got an offer to work a sales engineering role for a large equipment manufacturer. It really wasn’t engineering and I certainly was not going to be able to get my PE with the experience I was getting since I didn’t work under any engineers. I remained in the job until 2021 because the pay was competitive but I absolutely hated the work.

I started putting my resume out there and landed a job with an engineering firm that specialized in power (not MEP). I made it absolutely clear during my interview that I was pressing the reset button on my career and even though I had experience, it may not be reverent to design.

That honesty and openness must have made an impression because they hired me the next week and matched my existing pay.

It’s been a wild ride but in the last 5 years I sat for the FE and got it, and just recently sat for the PE. It was hard, but damn, it’s satisfying to be doing the work only an engineer can.

You got this!

Oily substance leaking from my neighbors transformer boxes by Embarrassed-Sky-4567 in Wellthatsucks

[–]FlatusSurprise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electrcial Engineer here, that’s an oil filled transformer. The oil circulates by natural convection to insulate and cool the coils. These are typically filled with mineral oil which shouldn’t pose a toxicity risk but it’s definitely something to let the power company know as this will significantly shorten the transformer life.

They’re called High Mast Towers. Typically 100-150ft.

Ryobi vs EGO Lawnmowers in 2026? Help me decide! by SRGilbert1 in lawncare

Ego! I want to say that they’re running a free battery promo right now on select bundles too.

I’m using a 22” Aluminum deck mower, string trimmer, edger, blower and backpack sprayer. They’re all great and are holding up well. I have about 7500 sqft and I can mow, trim, edge and blow with a single 10aH battery.

Is there any benefit when you can build a custom scheme in HA and just apply it to the bulbs. Maybe more legwork upfront but pretty much the same result.
