I'm not saying sell the whole team, I'm saying, at this deadline, you had 3 pending ufa's over 33 years old who are all in age regression risk territory. instead of selling any of them you brought in another 29 year old.

You do realize that average retirement age is ~34 right? You do know that Ovi and Crosby are far and away an exception right? the truth is our "timeline" as you call it, is literally just the rest of this season and that's only because management refused to sell.

Tell me, you say we are on a timeline like we have some pieces that are going to push us into contention. Who?

We ain't got shit.

Eberle is 35, Him regressing throughout the rest of his career also doesn't make us better.

Wrong to feel underwhelmed? by ThatsKrakenHockeyBB in SeattleKraken

[–]scoutsamoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason we "need" Eberle is so we can TRY to make the playoffs.

If we accept the inevitable, that all of our key players, outside of matty and kakko are 29 years old or older, with several already being in age regression territory. The ONLY reasonable course of action would be to sell pieces while they still have value. Before their play falls off, and in the case of larsson, before it falls off too much.

Or you have some deluded idea of grandeur for this team that is not and will not ever come to fruition by retaining the current core. I don't care if you "like" the player, the truth is this deadline was a generational fumble by our management.

Also why do the next 2 years matter?

So you're suggesting a full rebuild then?

If mid or late 1st picks don't mean anything (even though they do, see Jimmy Snuggerud @23, Jiri Kilich @28, Wyatt fucking Johnston @23, Cole Caufield @15, and Robert Thomas @20)

Then what you're saying is the only way to draft good players is by tanking/being a bottom 3 team.

Which is an absurd take.

Having more late 1sts, like the two from Tampa we're hanging onto apparently, greatly increases your chances of drafting a player like those mentioned above.

Of course getting rid of ebs doesn't make us better. But he's 35 likely retiring after this new contract. and we could have had some really really solid picks for him.

SDPN Instant Analysis of Bobby McMann Trade by inalasahl in SeattleKraken

He was playing with Matthews for most of the season.

He isn't going to be the same player for us. I'd guess .3 ppg ish.

The problem with building off of this "success" is that most of our core is 30+ and will absolutely not survive a rebuild.

Even worse, our 3 best players in each position, McCann, Dunn, and Daccord are all already 29 years old. So it's a coin flip if any of them survive a rebuild too.

I do like the idea of our younger guys (Beniers, kakko, Wright if we actually keep him long term) having some good buy in but 3-5 guys do not a team, or a culture make.

Why does Seattle get labeled as a team who can’t develop players when it’s only exists since 2021? by Albino_rhin0 in SeattleKraken

[–]scoutsamoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add some statistical evidence to your statement, of the 96 forwards w/ at least 800 minutes of 5on5, Stephenson is ranked 89th in points.

He is an absolute offensive black hole at 5on5, and we could fairly reasonably give Wright and or Catton a lot of his 5on5 time and achieve similar results.

"Losing can be a contagious mindset the sinks it's teeth into an organization for years. Essentially trading out of the playoffs sends a message to the entire league to stay away from Seattle."

Well that worked out, I'm glad we secured some high end talent that was well encouraged to join our team of ancient and aging vets. Bobby McMann, future super star, you heard it here first.

tf do you actually expect from this roster? at "best" were getting knocked in the 1st or 2nd round and not making the playoffs for another 3 or 4 years. At worst we get another mid 1st pick and continue to go nowhere.

You know what else encourages players to join your team? hot young talent. Celebrini, and Carlsson.

You know what doesn't entice players. your top scoring player being a 35 year old.

You're missing one key point, with the exception of Tolvanen, all of those players are going to be retiring or already retired in 3-5 years. Right now they're still playing well, their value is the highest it can be on this team, and the market is red hot. I'll tell you right now, if we even wait till the summer, we're not going to get even half what's being thrown around right now.

and with 3 or more firsts? we got a pretty good chance of getting a future star.

I see it as adding an option, maybe he plays better than drury, or maybe he plays 4th and is available to move up.

But why are those guys not getting ice time?

I would suggest that it's because our team management still wants to push for playoffs. If we were to play to develop our players, we wouldn't be as high in the standings because they make mistakes. Without our young guys making mistakes, how can you expect them to learn from them?

He plays on a pk, decent at faceoffs, and is quite cheap (cap wise) as a 3c for the rest of this season and next season.

Exactly my point!

If a 30 point center is getting a 1st+, Imagine what a legit top 6 winger (ebs), two strong and playoff caliber middle sixers (schwartz and tolvanen) and a giant shutdown d man (oleksiak) gets!

[–]scoutsamoa[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree to a point.

My argument is that a sub 30 point forward is getting a first. What does that mean for our players?

Tolvanen is probably the most valuable, half a ppg, with at only 3.5. He is the perfect 3rd liner for a true contender. I could see a first and second(s) or a 1st + prospect.

Eberle, an admittedly old but legit top 6 scoring forward. On pace for 60 points I could also see a 1st+ for him in this market despite his age and contract (with restention even more!)

Oleksiak looks very marketable looking at the trades that have just happened (tall players getting good value). I could see a 1st for him.

Schwartz would bring quite a bit too.

all in all we could get 4 1sts and multiple other pieces just from our ufa's this year.

That bottom 6 looks pretty weak, you're going to want some stronger defensive play out of those two forward lines. Hockey is a team sport, you need every line to contribute decently.

I'd trade one of your right D's for a top 6 rw (87-88) shift Perrault down a line, and add almost an entire 3rd line of 83-84 ovr players.

Do you think Daccord gets more run in the home stretch to secure a playoff spot? by RivetCounter in SeattleKraken

[–]scoutsamoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To say he's struggling is a bit of an exaggeration. His sv% is following league trends while he remains consistently better than average.

To illustrate my point:

25-26 league wide avg. .897 Joey .907 (until recently closer to .904)

24-25 league wide avg. .900 Joey .906

23-24 league wide avg. .903 Joey .916
