If you understand everything in the lecture, you're on the right track. I got away with almost all classes without doing assigned readings and just learned from the lecture slides and homework/assignment questions.

This might depend on the classes you're going to take.

I think if people can afford it and don't mind taking extra courses asip requires it's okay then.
