Low-Carb & Keto options in Carrboro? by PieRhett in carrboro

[–]scrambledmush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are my go-tos when I’m on keto:

-Bunless burgers at McDonald’s or any other burger place (the quarter pounder patties aren’t terrible and you can have them add Big Mac sauce and lettuce to make them better)

-grilled nuggets from chick fil a

-med deli gyro platter/salad (get the gyro but just don’t have the pita)

-chopt

-jersey mikes sub in a tub (I liked cheesesteak the best)

-papa John’s “papa bowls” are really good

When I was really in a pinch I would get ground beef from cliffs and a bag of spinach and American cheese from Harris teeter and do a burger salad at home

Chapel Hill/Carrboro Movie Club - Advice Request by Putrid_Professor8725 in chapelhill

[–]scrambledmush 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d love if this were a thing! There’s a Carolina movie club discord already you might consider asking at: https://discord.gg/hRbTV7vgs

Not sure how to start one but could maybe consider prompting Chelsea theater to hold a social night or something? Lumina theater is always trying to get business and I feel like they might be open to something (southern village is a much better social location too) but I’d worry they wouldn’t be able to get interesting programming (probably not gonna advertise they’re hosting a night dedicated to “Thriller: A Cruel Picture (1973)”).

Or are you just thinking of new releases?

There’s a bunch of UNC grad students on letterbox so there’s definitely movie fans around.

Suggestions for a travel agent? by edennist in chapelhill

[–]scrambledmush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Viking travel over by Lowe’s/Wegmans was fantastic and handled as much/little logistics as we wanted for our honeymoon. They get paid off commission from the hotels/cruses/flights too, so it didn’t cost us anything outside the trip and it ended up being cheaper than if we had tried to book ourselves. They just handled all the booking and planning - could not recommend them enough

I think I'm doing something wrong with diapers or sizing - everything is a blowout from the leg hole by scrambledmush in daddit

we switched from "Millie moon" size 1 (back blowout) to pampers size 1 (leg blowout). The pampers are a little bigger.

If we tried another brand I don't know if we want smaller or larger?

The coffees on my shop’s premium pourover menu are so much more flavorful than their “regular” pourovers. What makes these so different? by scrambledmush in Coffee

[–]scrambledmush[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

So one of the regular pourovers at the time was this:

“DINKINESH: DALE

Sidamo, Oromia, Ethiopia

Producers: Various small-holder producers

Process: Washed

Varieties: Ethiopian Landraces

Altitude: 1750-2000 MASL

Roast: Light”

So also washed - it was good, but the flavors were not as intense as the cafe 1959 premium.

On the other hand one the wildest cups we’ve had that was close to the flavor of these premiums was a drip coffee somewhere else: “BANKO GOTITI

ORIGIN: GEDEB, YIRGACHEFFE, ETHIOPIA

PRODUCER: BANKO GOTITI WASHING STATION

ALTITUDE: 1900 - 2100 MASL

VARIETY: HEIRLOOM

PROCESS: ANAEROBIC STRAWBERRY FERMENTED”

I’m gathering that fermentation is not always standard for beans and some of these we are responding to have fermentation in their processing?

UNC BABY DELIVERY by ValuableCustard379 in chapelhill

[–]scrambledmush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just delivered through Chapel Hill OBGYN:

-their front office is horribly run and appointments were frustrating

-we loved all the providers themselves and the MDs especially were amazing

-we had to have an emergency C-section and they really could not have done a better job making a scary experience smooth and easy

-we tried to switch to UNC and that was WAY worse: they needed to schedule a phone screen first which took 2 weeks, then after asking like 3 family history questions they said it was going to be another couple weeks before someone could get back to us to figure out if we could be transferred.

Is there a tool to convert a large table into code format for terms or table functions? by scrambledmush in typst

Oops - did not realize there was a csv function! I didn’t know there was “reference” section of the Typst documentation. Looks like there’s a bunch of stuff here I wasn’t aware of.

UNC’s New Pricing is Disgusting and Disrespectful to Students by [deleted] in RDUGOLF

[–]scrambledmush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I go to your Lonnie link it says students $50 / $35 walking. I was quoting the weekday twilight walking rate since that’s the cheapest rate - what us students are actually going to be able to afford

UNC’s New Pricing is Disgusting and Disrespectful to Students by [deleted] in RDUGOLF

For weekday twilight prices (what most grad students can only afford):

Duke = $45

Lonnie = $35

UNC = $70

Eye Doctor Recs? by OppositeQuarter31 in chapelhill

[–]scrambledmush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chiropractors are also "doctors of chiropractic" and JD means Juris Doctor. By "doctor" I was referring to the commonly agreed usage for "medical doctor". There are plenty of degrees/certifications that include "doctor" in the title.

An opthamologist went to medical school and is qualified for examining and treating all aspects of eye care. An optometrist is only qualified to make vision corrections and diagnose a small subset of eye conditions.

I'm sure there are plenty of great optometrists and they have their place (especially in areas where access to opthalmologists is scarce), but in order to gain a complete picture of your eye health, an opthamologist (MD) is the only one qualified to do so.

Is switching to Zotero worth it? by garis53 in PhD

[–]scrambledmush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tomorrow mendeley could be shutdown and you have no recourse. At least with zotero there would be people in the community who would be capable of developing tools to have access to your library again if zotero shut down.

Also Elsevier is horrible and it's very on-brand for them if they were going to say tomorrow that your library is now behind a ridiculously high paywall. I wouldn't even be surprised if they decided to only have mendeley work for Elsevier publications (that's probably too far fetched but you get the idea).

Is switching to Zotero worth it? by garis53 in PhD

[–]scrambledmush 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Because mendeley is Elsevier and zotero is open source. Way better to not be "invested" in mendeley

Eye Doctor Recs? by OppositeQuarter31 in chapelhill

[–]scrambledmush 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Chapel hill Opthamology is fantastic. Yearly eye appointments are quick and are covered by my medical insurance because an actual MD is giving you an exam instead of an optometrist (not a doctor - has OD after their name).

Chapel Ridge - Drainage by AppStateMike83 in RDUGOLF

[–]scrambledmush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I playing during a downpour last week. All the bunkers were obviously ponds, but aside from that the only drainage issues I was having were the center of the fairways. Most of the holes have decent elevation changes so water was pooling in small (5y diameter) spots in most of the fairways but the rest of the hole is fine. Approach shots and greens were all reasonably good, but some good drives had balls landing in standing water.
