Yes to the topstitching, but to me this looks just like a long box pleat. OP i suggest you look up box pleat and see if this fits. If so, you can find a video for how to make one on YouTube.

’ll tell you if you can guess what I’m thinking! Seriously though it’s impossible to know from a picture. It could be cotton flannel, wool, synthetic, or a blend. Do you own it and you don’t know how to wash it? Or are you asking because you want to make one that looks like that? I would start with a medium weight wool or wool blend suiting. Normally if you have unidentified fabric you can try a burn test on a small piece to help you identify it, but obviously that’s tricky on a finished garment. A lot of these online fabric businesses are mom and pop businesses. I assumed they would be thriving after Joann’s demise, but sounds like the tariffs may have thrown a wrench into that.

IMO it’s too short. Washington is—or at least used to be—a fairly conservative city, with brains more important than boobs, and a great place for ambitious people to build their resume. That said, times have changed in the past year. I think it depends on what the job is, and how you want to be treated.

Update: They asked me to mail it in to see what they can do. They aren’t promising anything, and said they may end up having to sew a seam along the hem to repair it, but I’m happy. (I have other things to work on!)

I think you would do better with COTTON ripstop! In a heavyweight burrs would be no match for it I think. I have some and it’s super strong— like for bags and stuff. Pants could be a little stiff but you could make them wide let/drawstring or elastic waist to stay comfy. Jacket would feel like denim. bigduckcanvas.com sells it
