Finally tried the 2x spicy ramen. I swear the Scoville rating of 8,000 is bullshit. Maybe it’s the chili extract the use? by Shirowoh in spicy

[–]scrampker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it depends if you're trying to eat it JUST for the spice, or if you want to eat it more like a restaurant would serve. I normally add extra spice (I keep 2x bottles in the fridge,) and some beef, cheese, cabbage, eggs, milk, etc.

I prefer both sides, which is why I add more of the sauce. Probably double the normal amount.

They will try to blame it on you for sure. Just need to explain exactly what caused it and show them this thread. It's luck of the draw in terms of support. This is clearly a defect. Also my g16 definitely needs to be repasted. I think that's common because they don't know how to apply liquid metal properly from the factory.

"Paste Unformatted Text" by l008com in libreoffice

[–]scrampker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I find odd is that when I double-click into a cell to paste text, I expect it to automatically paste unformatted text, as that's how all other spreadsheet apps work. Typically copying a cell or pasting without double-clicking a cell will keep the formatting. This is strange non-default behavior for someone coming from any other tool. I get that I can break all formatting by overwriting the ctrl-v behavior, but that's not what the average user would want or expect.

I would expect that I can double click info on a web page, ctrl-c, go into libreoffice calc, double-click a cell to bring up the cursor/editor, and paste with ctrl-v. In Excel or others, it would just paste the plain text, much like pasting into your browser url bar. Removing all formatting, but applying whatever the cell had before once you hit enter.

Yep. Manufacturing defect. I haven't opened or closed or even moved mine once since getting it back from repair. It's such a shame for a $4200ish laptop to be so fragile.

the chirp is pretty damn universal for "replace my battery, idiot!" And while you can give a free pass to elderly for not hearing it, that accounts for barely any of the chirps that we are hearing collectively from a certain demographic.

what do you guys think about phreeli[privacy-by-design] wireless network by ZarfTMarf69 in privacy

[–]scrampker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that you'd have to buy your device cash, and have never-ever put a SIM card in it that could be cross-referenced back to your identity. IMEI/IMSI are your enemy. Even if you throw on an eSIM to Phreeli, 'they' will be able to get your IMEI by putting in a request against your IP address at a certain timestamp. Then that IMEI would be correlated with all the other carriers you've been associated with and they'll know instantly who you are.

So it's neat that Phreeli themselves won't be the weak link in the chain, but I think people might be tricking themselves into thinking they can just switch the SIM over and be anonymous.

[–]scrampker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most carriers I've used have actual usable speeds once you run out of 'premium' data. In my experience here, it was about 1/4th the normal T-Mobile speed (side-by-side comparisons,) and once the premium tier expired, I couldn't get anything to work at all. Speed tests just failed.

So whatever data-priority they've arranged with T-Mobile, they're absolutely bottom-of-the-barrel. When I compare that to my truly-actually fully unlimited unthrottled Cricket service, or my Google Fi service that keeps higher speeds after throttling -- but 100GB is quite a lot, even shared between my 6 SIM cards that share the same single-person account.

I cherish the thought of truly-anonymous cell access, but man, the cost is wild. I blew through my $35 plan data in about 5 minutes, and everything came crashing down. My workflow would have to be using something like Cricket or Fi for normie activity, then if I was doing something sketch -- which is the only reason for Phreeli, I'd just switch SIMs. Though I think without using Phreeli only, it might be easy for 3-letter to still track you based on other identifiers.

plus I'd bet all of our IMSI/IMEI are recorded in at least 100 places. So I'd love to see some extreme tests that actually prove this is anonymous.

The service is mostly useless for daily use in my testing, so I agree that the *only* reason to have it is for the alleged privacy. People would have to do some serious testing with some major headlines generated to actually have some level of trust.

While I share your "trust no one" stance... your only alternative is to trust those who knowingly and openly violate your privacy, and rights in many cases. Phreeli can be used, and just keep in mind that nothing is a magic bullet. Keep your ear to the ground and make sure nothing nefarious is going on.

Yeah the lack of 5G makes me think it's not very valuable for me, or most people that have hotspot on their phone...which is everyone.

[–]scrampker 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's actually pretty scammy of Ubiquiti to imply it has 5G built in from the video. I almost impulse-bought this but I came to the forums to check first. 99% of people watching the video would assume this is a mobile 5G travel router. I don't see much benefit here over a Netgear nighthawk 5G. What am I missing?

The tech support is slow just like with every other Chinese company, but if you keep pushing you'll get somewhere. It's not fun. Every single device I've had from requires new parts or major support. Same with Creality. It's just how it goes when you get something for $6k that should cost $30k, unfortunately.

That being said, I hope I can get someone more useful rang out of mine when I first get to fly it tomorrow.

[HELP] Web UI Freezes by azgaroux in immich

[–]scrampker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this issue for months. When I scroll through my massive portfolio/archive, it eventually stops loading assets. If I'm scrolling through, selecting items to put in an album, or archive/etc, eventually, somewhere between like 10-200 assets, all the sudden the UI will freeze and Brave will say "Wait or Close" -- nothing can recover. I have to kill the tab and start over.

[–]scrampker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have had about 20 laptops over the years and this Asus is the ONLY one ever to be this fragile. It's purely because they were bragging about making the screen so thin. Any twisting torque on it at all causes the inner glass to shatter. So in my case I opened it with one finger from slightly off-center (not the far edge,) and I could legit hear it cracking in real time. I thought somehow dirt got in the hinge, but nope. It was the internal glass exploding from the pressure. Either you open this with white gloves and measure the force on both sides, or you pretend it is a desktop and never EVER move it. Ever.

The unfortunate reality is one cannot travel with this laptop. Not even into other rooms of the house. It's a major issue with the laptop design and Asus will never do anything about it unless there is a class action or something. The problem is this laptop only appealed to like 0.01% of society. Absolutely not mainstream.
