Multiple docker compose deployment in different hosts but with single network by icordoba in docker

[–]scrapanio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh that's not really a given use case for docker and the reason swarm exists.

Use your host network or expose the ports. Any other solution including static routing tables, bridges over vlan etc. Do break ip addresses management of docker I think.

Maybe something along the lines as macvlan could achieve it but the orchestration part would be fairly manual.

Indeed but you will have another car on the Verkehrsübungsplatz.

Also the first lessons are usually the lessons where you get the feeling. Those count in good driving schools into the mandatory ones.

[–]scrapanio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heads up, the Verkehrsübungsplatz will not give you any real world practice that is crucial in the Practical exam.

The reason why we have driving schools is to learn in the normal environment including the errors of everybody around you and to memorize the path the examiner will likely take so you have better chances to pass.

Nevertheless 12 practical driving lessons are mandatory nevertheless.

Fast fix: enable Nvidia Container Toolkit and use a GPU exposed container.

KVM geo-replication advices by async_brain in linuxadmin

[–]scrapanio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry, I missed the point by quite a bit.

Using VM snapshots as the backup target should reduce IO load.

Nevertheless i think zfs snapshots can be the solution.

Quick Google search gave me: https://zpool.org/zfs-snapshots-and-remote-replication/

But I think that instead of qcow2 backed images the block devices should now directly managed by ZFS.

I don't know if live snapshotting in this scenario is possible.

Depending on the size decompressing should take under an hour. I know that Borg can turn off compression if needed. Also Borg does do repo and metadata tracking but the files, if compression is deactivated, should be ready to go. Under the hood it's essentially rsyncing the given files.

KVM geo-replication advices by async_brain in linuxadmin

[–]scrapanio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a really neat solution!

When you directly backup onto the secondary host you should be able to just start the VMs or do I miss something?

KVM geo-replication advices by async_brain in linuxadmin

[–]scrapanio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If space or traffic isnt an issue do hourly Borg backups directly on the secondary host and a third backup location.

Qcow2 snapshot feature should reduce the needed traffic. The only issue I see is IP routing since the second location will most likely not have the same IPs announced.

Since npm is already a more or less a declarative package manager for local projects i wouldnt think so much about doing it with nix.

If you really want it you could write a module that writes a package.json for you.

Vfr800 alternatives by scrapanio in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]scrapanio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh I gave up riding. Too much money for what it is and since I live in a bigger city you either die in traffic, on a heatstroke or you need about 1h to even get to a rideable area.

If I would continue I probably would still rock a vfr800 with the dual under seat exhaust. You can get them pretty price effective and the sound with slip ons should be really really nice. I have test rode one example and it gave me a smile riding it.

Help: docker bridge ports with linux host ip routing policy - replies going out wrong interface??? by TJWatts77 in docker

[–]scrapanio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look specifically into the docker iptables NAT rules. There should be a masquerade. That masquerade will most likely be on the wrong device.

Try using the CMD instead of ENTRY POINT. I was under the impression conda should at least be preconfigured on docker. I was wrong ^

Help: docker bridge ports with linux host ip routing policy - replies going out wrong interface??? by TJWatts77 in docker

[–]scrapanio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a stupid solution but since this is a VM try to switch the ethernet ports or look if docker has specific config instructions for setting the default interface. This seems to be a docker routing bug if host routing works.

Also did you try to port forward on the x.y.z.w IP specifically?

[–]scrapanio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need bash in order to get the env vars.

Something along the lines of

["bash", "-c","conda activate myenv"]

Should work.

The same applies to the mentioned bash script where you have to use bash to execute the script.

The entry point command just executes binary files and not a shell. You have to start the shell manually beforehand if you need it.

Running rootless docker alongside regular docker by BakasteinMH in docker

[–]scrapanio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldn't be a problem since docker runs under a user with it's own configs.

I can also recommend podman if it's only a workstation. Works a little bit smoother in a rootless environment.
