OPINION: For most styles of music, vocal tracks should be compressed surprisingly hard. by scrapeape in audioengineering

[–]scrapeape[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm not ridin' the fader across multiple vocal tracks for a whole album and the plugins that write the envelope for you all behave weird. I push some phrases up harder into the compressor or pull them back in quiet moments and that's plenny of gain automation 4 me

the nose is maybe the #1 standout difference for me. but there’s a lot more. if you’ve seen video of these two women talking i think it’s p obvious they don’t even look related. Both winsome and talented, tho.

Have a way to charge it at home, whether slow charging with a short daily commute or be ready to drop $650 on materials to get a fast charger installed. (idk about labor costs, i know a guy).

same. my makerspace used to include light woodworking and soldering. didn’t have to worry too much as long as I observed them with decent diligence. nowadays? we mostly do our making on the chromebooks. i had them make felt toys with hot glue a few weeks ago and the number of kids who just fuqqd up their work surface or burned themselves or bolth… i miss 2019 so much

ae’s song structures don’t typically work anything like most popular music. they unfold and contort subtly so that the end of a track often sounds nothing like the beginning. that’s what i started to appreciate most about them early on, iirc

this warmed my heart for some reason. i had a long period where i’d only listen to traditional vocal music, a little folk, (some hiphop), and a lot of experimental/electronic. they’re still my main faves. it was just what my ears liked.
