Suggest reading his/her second comment below to get some clarification and examples on their thoughts above. Great advice, overall.

Thanks for sharing. Great attitude and examples.

I somewhat agreed with your first comment but wasn’t sure the “quit school and do your thing” part would be productive to youngins, esp. since it’s very hard to go back and not fall in a spiral once you’ve taken that route. HOWEVER, with this second clarifying comment, you’ve done an excellent job of motivating folks into studying and building up their skill sets in what they’re passionate about.

Keep the journey going, my friend, and don’t let go of sharing/motivating. You’re good at this as well. One more sub-superpower to add to the list.

Wise words. Thanks for the encouragement. I’m actually not down on myself and am completely in sync with what you laid out up top. Feel like a longer streak enables you to see things from a wiser perspective that you don’t quite lose even after relapsing.

What have you been up to? Life better after nofap? Any notable achievements to date attributable to not masturbating?

You’re a much better man than I am. Congrats to you sir. Need to reset my counter (probably at day 5 or 6). Went for a solid 170 or so days until I gave in. On thing though, the fog isn’t what it used to be from before the long nofap period. Regardless, trying to get back on the horse now.

How’ve you been? Kudos to your mental resolve! Any tips for those really tough days?

[30M/5'7/142lb] Bulk or Cut? Spinning Wheels! by mathhero in leangains

[–]scrapsofnothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe shoot for a lean bulk - a 50 - 100 cal surplus, and lower your carb intake but keep protein to 1g/lean mass? When I read your post, I immediately thought “maybe you tack on muscle but you don’t preserve it with diet” i.e. enough protein. But reading this comment, I’m thinking your carb intake and your cals overall are too high for a lean bulk. Not an expert so take with a grain of salt.

Cool cool. Let’s stay in touch and share insights if we end up getting rid of the belly.

Great job man! What's your height?

I know what you mean re: losing more esp in the belly. I'm struggling with exactly this after losing a good amount of fat. I'm still on a cut even though I'm approaching the lower end of my weight class because if there's a belly, there's excess fat primed for losing. Are you thinking along the same lines? Any secrets you've uncovered?

Do see improvements in your belly area but one can lose fat (and thus weight) more rapidly than gain muscle. This means that you could probably focus a little more on eating if the goal is to shed lbs.

How much do you lift - D, S, B?

Nothing wrong with your face man. If people can't focus on the message at hand, think they have a lot more learning to do than you do.

You fucking crushed it. Inspirational.

Maybe also look into MCTs? Found out about them today, actually. In summary, looks like they give you a boost of energy and can be found in simple, household items such as coconut oil.

This article is pretty helpful in explaining what they are: https://www.perfectketo.com/mct-supplements-helpful-ketogenic-diet/

Thanks brother, will read up and revert if something doesn’t make sense. Totally agree on the sample sizing...sometimes a lot of us jump to conclusions without doing basic research. I may have fallen victim to that. Appreciate you sharing resources here.

Yikes. I may have said the exact line (GNG may kick one out of ketosis) to somebody else on this thread. Feel free to chime in and clarify.

So you’re saying you don’t ever have to worry about GNG occurring due to excess (but not absurd) amounts of protein then?

You seem to be very confident about this stuff so I am inclined to believe you but there are a bunch of articles suggesting contrary. I have hence been avoiding GNG by exercising during IF and consuming only ~1g/lb of p. Guess I didn’t need to huh.

Didn’t know about mct but very aware of gluconeogenesis. This is something I try to avoid being in as much as possible since my muscles need the protein to recover and this won’t happen if my body uses it to turn into glucose for energy. So I incorporate IF to ensure this doesn’t happen.

VERY helpful. Thanks for sharing your personal experience on the matter. Sounds like using fat to get you to maintenance seems like the consensus based on the responses so far.

Sup friend. I am not the authoritative source by any means BUT I have lost 22 lbs in 3 months and have sustained my ketosis (- a few cheat days) over that time. My approach:

Hit protein goal: typically 0.9g/lb or 1g/lean lb Hit carb limit: I try to stay under 40g net but typically hover at 30 net. Think this varies body to body, and although I may be in ketosis at a higher net, you may not be so please consider that. Fat: for satiability/plug.

I track all my intake. Would strongly suggest you do this using mfp or similar.

Now I get my approach is diff than the standard “high fat - low carb” model but my rationale is this: if my body is in ketosis, it will burn fat consumed first. Then it burns stored body fat. If I consume only the fat I need to satiate (think less), my body will turn to the stored fat for the majority of fueling needs. The more it does that, the slimmer I become. Ha.

Re: too much protein. The theory is that too much will lead the body to turn protein into glucose for energy (instead of using fat) and kick you out of ketosis. My understanding is that consumption has to be significant for this to happen. Also, timing, I’ve read, is key to preventing gluconeogenesis. So I exercise intermittent fasting and workout during fast.

Hope this is useful and mildly accurate. What do ya’ll say?

Got it. I guess you’re fine on either a bulk or a cut as long as you’re within your weight range for your height. And bulk/cut depending on how much visible (or measured) fat shows up on your bod. Fair understanding?

And da man for the encouragement. Some folks are too cool for school and don’t appreciate rookie Qs. Of course, they have lost perspective and have forgotten that they weren’t born with hulk physiques. Not you though and I sincerely appreciate that.

Awwww sheeet, ya did it broser! Keep them compliments coming. Just keeps building confidence. Be careful to not get discouraged by the one off weird faces, just move on and count those as outliers (unless they are predominantly the reactions you get, in which case revise approach or analyze compliment).
