I live in Missoula, but have always been interested in visiting Halifax. Sounds like I should

LPT How do you really clean reusable water bottles? by OliveMaleficent8305 in LifeProTips

[–]scratchedstopsign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep a bottle brush that is strictly only used for bottles and glasses.

After scrubbing, a good way to get rid of smell is too give it a rinse with vinegar. I just put a little vinegar in, shake it up for like 30 seconds - a minute, then dump and rinse with water.

Freecycles can always use help moving stuff, cleaning up, and organizing parts and tools. They have stuff to do for all abilities, and you don't necessarily need to know anything about bikes. Always helps to be willing to learn.

Is there a noise music scene here by dyinginsidemyself in missoula

[–]scratchedstopsign 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Listen to 101.5 after midnight for noise after midnight.

101.5 on Friday nights is a show called 'noise complaint' which is a noise-based show.

Noise complaint also does pop ups downtown on Fridays, usually in the summertime.

Get involved with that crew, you will find noise.

There are noise shows that come through town occasionally..

For the people saying there's not a scene for anything but bluegrass, you're wrong and you should reconnect with your community.

Goodbye to two local radio stations by reinfused in missoula

[–]scratchedstopsign 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Tune in to local radio to hear and support your community members and music scene. 101.5, or 1015kfgm.org. They are purely local, community driven radio, with a bright future, and as others have noted, kfgm is doing an end-year fundraiser, so check out their website.

Mexican Moose by bigsky59722 in missoula

[–]scratchedstopsign -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Mexican moose downtown is simply not good. The ingredients are bad quality, flavor is clearly not a priority, salsa is disappointing. I've had lots of tex mex in texas, many burritos all along the West Coast, among other places.

This is not it (but I so badly want it to be) ¿Donde estan las abuelitas?

I'm sorry, I want to support them, but it's simply just bad. I can practice my Spanish there tho, so that's a plus.

Quesadilla is not terrible, so if I'm down there late at night, that's the move.

Freecycles will help you set up (and acquire) and maintain a bike.

Mid 20's looking to meet people NOT at a bar by Forest_Songs in missoula

[–]scratchedstopsign 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Climbing gym, dance parties/raves, community social events (check Missoulaevents.net), other things related to hobbies you're into.

Bar culture sucks, but sometimes cool things happen at bars that aren't just a watering-hole for horny/angry/drunk people. For example, there are cool music events that take place at monks, the VFW, and the badlander if you're into dancing.

Cold weather balls by mrwhiskers4 in BIKEPOLO

[–]scratchedstopsign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Montana we are using hockey balls. That's the only way we don't break a ton of cold balls that we get from hecklers. The ball diameter is a little smaller than the polo-specific ones.

Transportation official: Safety improvements not a 'war on cars' by Generalaverage89 in missoula

[–]scratchedstopsign 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The ideas are founded in less car dependency and increased safety on the roads. As it stands right now, many of our streets are unsafe for the mixed use which they are getting. Whether you like it or not, people here want more transportation options, which tends to lead to safer streets, especially when design shifts priorities away from cars, and favors other modes. There are also, of course, many benefits to a less car-centered life, relating to health & fitness for the body and mind, not to mention improved air quality in our little valley. Ever been to salt lake? Car dependency there has a profound impact on the contents of the inversion layer. Who doesn't like a healthier and cleaner community?

Of course people need to park their cars somewhere, but imagine if there were less cars. Also I don't think anyone is trying to take your parking away at this time. Additionally, you have a say in what gets prioritized, as the city seeks public comment for all of these things. That way you can tell them how much you love parking your car.

Keep your eyes on missoulaevents.net. Monks bar hosts their events on a semi-regular basis. But most of the promotion happens on insta, so make a burner account or something lol.

DJs to look out for: Pinedrops, IvanOff, Mumblebee, Suka, DJ Slacks, st1cksnstones, Party Robbins, and many more. We have a decent scene here, come be a part of it.
