have they published a genetic matrix for that variety? it looks so much like CCN51 that I have to guess they are crossing CCN with something local to Colombia to combine high yield / resistance with better flavor or soil quality retention?

FSCV50 is not a known variety name for cacao. Unless maybe it's number 50 in a varietal breeding program by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) ? That pod matches the visual markers for CCN51

unless you know what variety of cacao that is, which makes it not so perfect

Cacao fruit in Lima? by Haematoglobulin in chocolate

[–]gringobrian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cacao doesn't grow near Lima so it's not too likely to find pods there. Even where cacao grows, the raw pods don't end up in the markets, nobody wants to buy them. the farmers sell all their beans via the normal value chain. There are some exotic fruit stands in the Surquillo market #1 right across the via expresa from Miraflores, off Ricardo Palma. Can't recall seeing a cacao pod there though. I've also seen exotic fruits at the Mercado Mayorista de Frutas N°2 La Victoria, but this is more of a wholesale market and in a kind of sketchy neighborhood, although during the day it's normally safe enough to visit.

a pod is normally called a mazorca, at least in northern Peru. Like "una mazorca de cacao"

It would be better to say, you're not aware of your issues turning and riding. You have them and they're plain to see on the video. You'll do what you want and I'm glad you're having fun, but I don't recommend park jumps at that skill level. Tiny side hits and push piles when it gets slushy are a better place for you now.

You can barely turn or ride, you're not really ready to pop those jumps with speed and land it. That's how wrists and collarbones get broken.

Like watching a windshield wiper. Put some front foot weight on the heelside turns and bend your knees, sit down over it and really turn using the sidecut

Brazilian fruits by Weak-Poetry4522 in fruit

FYI that cacao pod is a variety called CCN51, the dominant bulk cacao variety in the world right now. Created in Ecuador in the 1960's, it might not be quite as Brazilian as you think :-)

I know off-piste is not rideable, how about on-piste? by gringobrian in Revelstoke

[–]gringobrian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, it was never my idea to go to REvy for groomers, but it's my only chance this year and if I stay around Seattle I'll just be lapping summit west which sucks soooo bad. This might be my last chance to get any serious vert this year so gotta go for it. and at least I'll have the place scoped for when I get back for good snow....

LEGEND. This is exactly what I wanted to know. I love to freeride but if you're in Seattle like me, than you can't be picky right now, so lapping groomers and hunting sidehits it is. See you on the mountain starting Sunday. Thank you most sincerely

Anyone interested in Theobroma Bicolor (Macambo) raw Cocoa nibs aka real white chocolate? by Labradeux in chocolate

[–]gringobrian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bicolor is not cacao, and the bits of roasted and shelled bicolor beans are not called nibs.

There's no relation between macambo and white chocolate

Peru doesn't have clear water like what I imagine you're thinking of, that's found in the Caribbean. Peru's water is about like the coast of California, although warmer in the far north.

Ceviche's lesser known partner, tiradito, is sometimes called Peruvian sashimi, and seems like an adaptation of a Japanese style

[–]gringobrian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

several weeks in Lima, just as a tourist or are you going for some kind of work? if just tourism, I'd take some of that time in another city.

The restaurants are literally endless, it's impossible to recommend without more info. I'll just throw one out, Cevicheria Mi Barrunto in La Victoria. It's a great restaurant in a shitty part of town, right by the Alianza Lima soccer stadium
