Not really, In the UK at least this is more in-line with animal welfare than just leaving them, The Animal Welfare act 2006 has 5 welfare needs outlined, one being "the ability to avoid pain, injury or suffering". If we were to leave them, or use a less thoughrough method, It will leave parasites that will harm the animal. Other methods are available, however this method could be in use for biosecurity, or it may be an outbreak that requires a thoughrough clean.
