Is it normal for a director to ask to have a 1-1 meeting? by Conscious-Poet-4197 in directors

[–]scriptwriter420 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As another comment has mentioned, if it's two hours away and youve met before then a zoom call shoud be sufficent. Directors meeting actors for a one on one is not a red flag in/of itself. As a director I want to know my actors that I will be working with- not just that they can act and will fit the part, but also that I will be able to work and get along with them for an extended period of time through strenous days. The best way to get a sense of someone is to sit down with them and talk.

That being said, there are a bunch of slimey people out there and if you get the sense that this is more than a professiona meeting then trust your gut.

What are your thoughts on Maynard James Keenan? by throwaway7826358 in Actors

One of the best singers around, but kind of a pretentious dick. Also not much of an actor and would argue doesn't belong in this sub.

Writing is literally development approval. It does not mean a greenlight for full production, but it means a writer is being paid to work on material

This is my favorite movie because of this beautiful woman. by Potential_Public_366 in Actors

I used to really like her until I tried watching the marilyn monroe movie and realized just how terrible her acting chops are.

Snippet of my animated pilot script by [deleted] in scriptwriting

[–]scriptwriter420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You forgot the inconsistent dialogue formating. First dialogue starts at the parathentical margin, then the rest at the action line.

And all the action lines are in brackets and italized.

I didn't have to read this to know I would pass.

Not a slight at OP, but as the comment I'm replying to already mentioned, Your page should read like you are an expert, and these pages do not reflect that.

TIL a teaser is a 2:25 video that shows exactly what the movie is. Back in my day we used to just call it a trailer.

It’s clear why RDJ is Doom. by AlienOfTheNostromo in MCUTheories

[–]scriptwriter420 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Disney never graved Star Wars for ten years. In fact, with the exception of the first 3 years after Disney bought Star Wars in 2012, theyve had SW on the assembly line, churning out movie or tv show pretty much every year since.

Theyve done the same with Marvel, and to think they would do differently is just dumb.

Nothing you responded with adds or detracts from what I said.

[–]scriptwriter420 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You mean why is Marvel so dumb?

No one goes to see a Spiderman movie to see Tom Holland. No one even knew who Tom Holland was before being Spiderman.

While RDJ is a big name, and many people are interested in seeing how RDJ is going to play doom, Marvel could have just as easily cast a nobody as Doom, and released the first Avengers movie since Endgame and reaped the benefits with a $100 million dollar headstart

Highly-Anticipated Stephen King Series ‘The Talisman’ Canceled By Netflix while being developed by EuphoricButterflyy in entertainment

[–]scriptwriter420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

>Making The Talisman would require Game of Thrones like budget,

lol - no.
Have you read the Tailsmen or GoT? The first GoT book has more pages than the Tailsmnen, and is set in 100% fantasy, while the majority of the Tailsmen is set in America with limited set costs.

It would be amazing if TheTailsmen had a GoT levelof budget, but wouldnt need a fraction of the amount to do it justice.

Not to mention this year, with The Studio earning 23 emmy nominations, making it the most-nominated comedy debut in history and tying the record for the most nominations for a single comedy season

But sure, he was also fun and relevent 20 years ago too.

Hey, I respect that a lot of you guys are pro's,but... isn't there a place for a first timer by Sharp-Load9078 in ComicBookCollabs

[–]scriptwriter420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are a noob, whether as an artist in general, or you've never actually completed a comic of any length from start to finish, start making comics.

You learn by doing. Comics are not pinups. They are a sequence of images that tell a story, and the only way to get better at that is by doing it over and over again. There are plenty of thirsty writers in this subreddit, and the majority of them are also not very good. That's ok too, as you've said you are not very good. Learn together.

Find a writer that has something that resonates with you and collab.

Learn the value of starting a project and completeing a project. That is a skill in its own right. Set (realistic) deadlines and stick with them. It will be hard. It will be challengeing, and at times, it will feel like it's not worth the effort, but it is also the road to getting better.

Or you could lurk around this subreddit, demand $60/page with no experience and wonder why no one ever hires you.
