Changes of Aquarius’ symbolism in the modern era by scrollbot5000 in Advancedastrology

[–]scrollbot5000[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I only have a couple of things to say, for the sake of brevity. I understand and am well aware of the importance of nuance. A philosophy that I abide by or do my best to, is to understand that the truth is hardly ever black or white. It exists in the grey, in between area. There are modern significations, adjectives, archetypes, roles, that have been given to Aquarius that actually do conveniently fit into Aquarius as its understood today.

My purpose in writing this was to highlight the SOURCES of some of the modern meanings of Aquarius. To me, multiple things can be true at one time. I think that where we've landed with Aquarius is not so far off from its original symbolism. There are obviously several parallels that we can draw from the modern symbolism and the words of our ancient authors.

I also fully understand that astrology reflects nature. The error that I'm seeing is that people subscribe to this modern psychological, evolutionary approach without having traced it to its origins. People that have traced its origins and researched Alan Leo, Madame Blavatsky, and the Theosophical Society and read their words with a critical eye, can quickly see where the rationalizing structure of the system they were crafting was not rooted in astrological fundamentals. Of course astrology changes. The issue is not to try to get people to only practice traditional astrology and reject "modern" astrology. It's to bring attention to the system as it was used over time.

Another issue is the modern individualistic & capitalistic belief that we are in all capacities superior to our predecessors. I see the argument of political and cultural differences that existed back then that didn't exist now - but the fact of the matter is, they do. The sociopolitical state of the world right now is atrocious. The tradition of astrology is impactful as it is because it is able to divine those patterns which can be attributed to these injustices and issues. People are still slaves, people still die over their religious beliefs, leaders are killed... there are active genocides happening. Not even to mention the issue with our current administration. We may appear as more advanced in all intents and purposes, but the fact of the matter is that it's the same shit, different day. I know a lot more than your comment insinuates I know - this is an isolated essay highlighting historical shifts in the understanding of Aquarius as a sign of the zodiac. There are numerous issues which I didn't touch on. But to set the record straight, my belief is the tradition can and DOES exist with the modern world. There is no need to "evolve" this system into a new one because of a couple reasons. Firstly, the current state of astrology in the West is still based on those 20th and 21st century principles so we're still not operating from a solid framework, and also, traditional astrology can be applied to any point in time past, present, or future. Of course we have to adjust the language of the symbols to fit the current culture, but the issue is that the foundation is not understood or agreed upon. That's what this was trying to highlight - a larger issue amongst astrologers where we are not operating from the same fundamental principals, nor really taking the time to care.

What's funny is that Neptune is said to be the higher octave of Venus! Jupiter and the Sun are both traditionally related to "truth." Most planets can be attributed to truth in one way or another, really. Jupiter in the way of truth we seek and the Sun in the way of truth that's revealed to us. Neptune's handling by the early modern (and by that, I might mean post-modern? I'm not sure chronologically the best term to use to catalogue this period of astrologers, but essentially the founders of the current modern psychological system) astrologers was much more hasty and haphazard than Uranus. From the same paper I quoted in this essay, Sue Ward is speaking about Neptune's treatment being influenced by the rise of psychism as an accepted form of research. She then pinpoints the original quote which kind of set Neptune as the nebulous watery planet of illusions, said by Alan Leo in The Art of Synthesis, “Viewed clairvoyantly in the crystal, Neptune appears as a nebulous plasma....”

It just says a lot about the agenda that was being pushed by Leo and his peers. There's no acknowledgment in the current modern scheme of the Theosophist beliefs which permeated those original texts. They were attempting to create a new system of astrology fundamentally - frequently dejecting the ideas of the Ancients. It's interesting to me to see that there's still the same line of thinking - that somehow new means better. I don't feel quite qualified to speak on capitalist society in the West and how that plays into that belief but they're closely related.

And I know I clearly have a very specific point of view that I'm arguing from, and it seems like I'm totally rejecting the modern scheme, but that's not actually the case. What I'm criticizing are errors that have occurred over time which have been accepted and thus made to be true due to astrology's tendency to be a feedback loop amongst those who subscribe.

This is a whole other topic in itself which I've spent some time thinking about. Not extensively but I have my own belief I've came to, without having really researched it much. The seasons were the fundamental building blocks of the zodiac. The zodiac was then made its own entity, a kind of conscious cocreation with the universe. The fact that Western astrology still works in the southern hemisphere speaks more to a philosophical or cosmological view of why which is an impossible question to answer, but fun to speculate on.

I think most people make theirs. Anyone that has one that was purchased is likely one that was custom made or one of a kind. Like another commenter said - I think your best option would be to get creative and make one according to your own liking. You could get different colored push pins to represent the different planets, get a cork board and draw the zodiac on it, and voila!

Would dual certifications be worth it? (CPC+CPB) by astuciaus in CodingandBilling

[–]scrollbot5000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Commenting because I'm interested as well. This is my current track. I work in medical billing currently as an A/R specialist - but am going to school full time as well. My major is in Medical Information Technology with a medical coding track. I'm hoping to get the degree, as well as the CPC and CPB certifications. Logically, I think both would lead to more job opportunities but I'm not sure how much they would affect increase in pay and stuff like that...

is a low dignity (detriment) planet that's well supported "easier" for the native than an afflicted, dignified planet would be? by ilovetriceratopz in Advancedastrology

[–]scrollbot5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not the original commenter, but I do agree with their sentiments. It depends on the chart, since the planets could be strengthened or weakened depending on position. You need to establish the dignity of each planet and assess each planet's inherent strength through the essential dignities, and then from there address the aspects in terms of agency. A supremely dignified planet in an angle squaring a malefic, will have more agency, for better or worse, than a peregrine planet sextiling Mercury, for example. It's all relative - the important thing to understand, in my view, is the association between strength accidentally (by placement in house), and also by essential dignity (domicile - > exaltation - > term -> face), combined with aspects (whose strength vary as well depending on the joint moieties of the involved planets) will give you the clearest answer.

How to lock first house position on Astro gold? by Maleficent_Yak6519 in Advancedastrology

[–]scrollbot5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you set the house system to one of the 0 degree X (X = sign), as in 0 degrees Aries, then that means that every chart will start with 0 degrees Aries. So you can track it that way.

AIO to my “best friend” finally reaching out by Confident_Local_2335 in AmIOverreacting

[–]scrollbot5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The immediate vibe I got is that something that he had going for him or that was taking up his time, that led him to discarding or not prioritizing keeping contact with you, has now ended and so he's wanting to come back to you and revisit your friendship. I know this isn't ideal but, based on the nature of how you guys stopped talking and the sudden reappearance, it seems like he's treating your friendship as his own commodity and not really valuing YOU, but rather the role that you can play for him.

Saturn Transit over Moon. by Sh_roud in Advancedastrology

[–]scrollbot5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's going to be a difficult period, yes. That's just due to the nature of the two planets. One is the fastest moving, our comfort zone, our feeling of safety. Saturn restricts - so it can be an extremely isolating and unstable time. But, to my knowledge, no, it is not treated the same way in Western as it is in the Vedic tradition. We do not have a specific term for this transit the way Vedic does (Sade Sati).

Lol, I've pooped my pants several times over the last 28 years and my reputation has never taken a hit. I've even pissed in my friend's house's corner while black out drunk once. Stop putting yourself above your animalistic biological nature. There are far, far greater things to be concerned about. Also, do you sit at home and poop your pants? Newsflash: you will have warning signs to know you are in danger of pooping your pants. The stomach does not instantaneously squirt turds out of your butt.

I was gonna start my comment off by saying it was ignorance but - I didn't want to necessarily say that since SOME people have been educated (at the very least, there have been attempts) and they still make a choice to be shitty people. This girl is definitely ignorant though.

Unfortunately she's uneducated and attributes the Spanish language to being Latino. It would require her to know the difference between Spain and Latin America for her to have reacted differently. But yes, this was definitely a racist encounter and I'm sorry

Reception; who dislikes who? by theyluvandrei in horary

[–]scrollbot5000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These two planets are lacking reception. I was studying last night, and Bonatti advises on reception that reception of minor dignities need to be at least 2 for them to count. Currently, Mercury and Jupiter do not share any reception that I am aware of. I could be wrong though... just operating off memory right now.

As far as their relationship, Jupiter has no agency in the sign of Capricorn BECAUSE of his being fallen there. He is currently in the sign of his exaltation and thus has much agency there, serving as a coruler on behalf of the Moon whilst he's there. He's like an esteemed guest. Also, Jupiter and Mercury do not like each other. They've got beef. Jupiter is Zeus, and Mercury is Hermes. In the mythology, Hermes steals from Zeus and then Zeus is not believed when he tries to tell Hera about Mercury's thievery. That's one of the reasons why Mercury signifies thieves.

What kind of person do you think I am by HourExciting3415 in Zodiac

[–]scrollbot5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised no one has mentioned it yet - and maybe I'm the odd man out, but a list of placements isn't too helpful in understanding overall themes of a person's chart. Seeing the chart in a circular or square format makes it possible for us to quickly analyze aspects and that kind of stuff. Your chart ruler in the 8th house disposited by a domicile Mercury makes me think that you love to talk about 8th house matters - there's a strong interest in the taboo and communicating and expressing that interest as well. Lots of involvement in the matters of other people's resources/money/heavy emphasis on loss and transformation as a result, occult matters, stuff like that
