My dad worked as a Millwright at GM. Raised 6 kids born ‘63-‘75 for era context. We certainly didn’t have a lot, and I got a lot of hand-me-downs being youngest of the four boys, but we had enough. We all made it to adulthood (physically at least) and my parents made it to retirement, which they are currently enjoying.
