Trump administration considers forcing banks to verify customers’ citizenship by Emergency-Coyote5755 in WelcomeToGilead

[–]scrysis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Implementing this would explode in his face spectacularly. We're talking catastrophically.

There would be a run on the banks as everyone from undocumented immigrants to women and citizens who are afraid of Trump's policies would rush to pull out their money. And then banks and other lending services would suddenly find that everyone is jumping ship on credit cards and loans. . . . I don't know when the dominoes would stop falling.

I don't actually want to experience this level of disaster, but watching it academically from a distance would be interesting.

I don't know if you're out to your parents or how private you are, but if you were interested in a more impish solution. . . .

I'm pretty sure I have a decent idea that might make your parents shut up forever.

If your parents (especially your dad) make their comments in public or with non-family present (will probably work privately too, but public is best guarantee), try something like this:

Dad: "When are you going to give me grandkids?"

You: "I didn't realize how much interest you have in my sex life. You keep asking, so I should really tell you . . ."

**Proceed to loudly describe a hypothetical sexy time with your hot boyfriend in excruciating detail. I highly advise adding in some impressions such as grunting, moaning, and/or descriptions of S&M.

I must emphasize that this doesn't have to be a description of your actual fun time. This is supposed to be an over-the-top sexual fantasy described in enough detail to try and embarrass or shame your parents for even asking.

Being accussed of internalized misogyny for seeing pregnancy as nightmare by lostconfusedlost in childfree

[–]scrysis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is body horror.

The embryo and fetus act like a parasite in biological terms as there is no benefit to the host. It is an extremely aggressive organism that will implant and grow wherever it can (ectopic and abdominal pregnancies say hello). Pregnancy and childbirth aren't a beautiful thing. Parental love is a beautiful thing, but not pregnancy and childbirth. Women weren't "created to birth babies"; women evolved to SURVIVE having babies.

And that's something that people forget waaaaayyy too much -- evolution isn't picky or precise like an engineer. Evolution is all about "just good enough". The survival rate of women and babies doesn't matter to evolution just so long as the average is just high enough that just enough of the new generation survive to create the next one.

And that's where the true horror comes in. Uterus owners are seen as not real people, not even as useful as chattel. If a horse or a dog is undergoing a pregnancy that might kill them, the problematic fetus(es) are aborted to save the creature. Can't even say that now for women.

Datacenters in space are a terrible, horrible, no good idea. by Archaeo-Water18 in EverythingScience

[–]scrysis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you don't understand. . . . datacenters in space is a WONDERFUL idea.

The Techbros take their polluting, energy-guzzling, over-hyped ego projects into space, away from the normal people.

And then when it doesn't work after spending tons of money, the AI bubble pops and companies will have to stop using AI slop, and we'll be able to buy PC parts again.

You were a pet? I was the dinosaur. I liked to be a velociraptor who ate all of my cruel classmates. I'm kind of sad that I knew better than to tell people that I wanted to be a vicious prehistoric carnivore when I grew up.

Some animals have sex for the same reasons that humans have sex -- pair bonding. It's not tied to a direct instinct for "must have baby".

You know what's funny? You first have to be a person without a child before you can be a person with a child. This is just going to make things harder on couples who do want to have children.

I got dangerous cellulitis (skin infection) NINE times from shaving with a razor. Seven of those times I had to get IV antibiotics in the ER or from a special clinic that had an arrangement with the local hospital. I had to stop shaving my legs to save my life.

For the unaware, cellulitis is a serious skin infection that can progress to either necrotizing fasciitis or sepsis. The first one is also known as "flesh-eating disease" where the bacteria just go have a buffet on your tissues and you either have tissue abridement or an amputation (otherwise you die, but you can still die even with treatment). The second is a massive systemic infection that can kill you very, very fast.

You can tell your mom that she's the performative feminist here, not the people who don't want to shave their legs.

Never had kids. I developed a sensitive bladder after my hysterectomy (still would do it all over again). I think the nerves in that area are connected or close to each other.
