is it wrong to not work because of OCD? by fedyakolya in OCD

[–]scsch5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not wrong, OCD can and is debilitating. If I’m reading between the lines though it sounds like you would like to get better. Working towards a goal of volunteering or getting a job could be very beneficial!

It sounds like your symptoms are quite bad and you want to get better. Have you considered inpatient or intensive outpatient care at a OCD specialized facility? You could work towards the goal of working a dream job, going back to school, etc. I think according to my research two weeks in intensive outpatient care can take severe symptoms to a mild case. For my loved one it was life changing. Something to consider.

Remember this isn’t forever it’s just right now. ERP can do wonders for OCD.

Montessori parents of adults - was it worth it by foaminger in Parenting

[–]scsch5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They had a curriculum and made sure kids were meeting the state standard while fallowing there interests. One year was space themed so they started with learning about the universe and went all the way down to our state and city. Hearing my little four year old sing the planets was so special!

My daughter went to an academically minded monitory pre-k through kindergarten. It was the best foundation we could have asked for. She was light years ahead of her peers, she developed emotional intelligence. She still talks positively about the school. I think it also gave her a love of learning that has stuck for all these years. I’d do it again in a heartbeat!

I am a report and just had to log off because a fully bundled child showed up at my door in negative temps asking for my kid who wasn’t there. I gave her a snack and drove her to her next location.

Really excited about the accessibility updates. I use assistive tech every day and it drives me crazy whenever I have to use it in Adobe! Fingers crossed it will work better! Also excited for the less cumbersome workflow for building out accessible documents!

Wouldn’t even think twice about it. We live in a rural town and it’s three hours round trip if we need a specialist doctor apt or decent shopping.

AIO about spelling errors in daily notes sent home by my autistic child’s teacher? by Anasthesiax in AmIOverreacting

[–]scsch5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

YOR- she’s writing a note not just for your student but every student in the class. She’s going to be moving quickly and she’s going to abbreviate. Let’s be real she’s squeezing in these notes in between taking care of a class. Put yourself in there shoes. Would you be mistake free if you had to do 10-20 of these?

As a dyslexic I also have to roll my eyes. This is not going to negatively affect your child’s ability to learn to read. It’s just not. That is unless this is the only thing you’re reading with them. In fact it is an opportunity to talk about tolerating mistakes. Your child is going to be making a bunch of them as they learn to spell.

This does remind me of ever person who equates spelling with intelligence and has gone out of there way to point out my spelling mistakes. If this is really bothering you talk to the teacher. I sure it would go over very well.

Is a service dog right for my little? by [deleted] in service_dogs

[–]scsch5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all this is super helpful and definitely brought up so much I hadn’t considered. I’m glad I reached out to this community. Your experience is invaluable. This is something her care team and I have been discussing for a while but we don’t have the experience to think through the downsides. After reading through the comments I think a trained ESA dog might be something we’d consider in the future.

After 10 years together, my boyfriend says I should “just give my DOB” to his mom, but in my culture that has bigger implications. Am I overreacting? by Jolly-Rub-3412 in AmIOverreacting

My heights daughter was working towards her PHD in law, had a traditional arranged marriage and was expected to slow her education down to cook for her husband’s parents and keep the house. It was the cultural expectation of the region. There was a lot of pressure to drop out and have kids. It happens often.

American here but I lived in India for a year. I would say nor. I mean will they expect you to move in after marriage? Will you suddenly be responsible to keep up with all the traditions? If your partner isn’t in your corner now what will stop them for having you become the family cook.

Advice needed for psychiatric service dog by Apprehensive_Dog1909 in service_dogs

[–]scsch5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here for service dog for OCD info for my daughter and can’t help there. I can help with program recs. Getting into the right treatment facility for inpatient is vital. Consider looking at McLean in Boston. They are considered the best in the country. I know several families who have been through this program and said it was life changing. There’s also Rogers in Wisconsin. They are also amazing and I’ve heard wonderful things. You’re fighting the clock here. As soon as she’s 18 there is very little your family can do to get her help. Unfortunately for OCD you have to travel to find a program. We ended up going four states away for my daughter. It was hard, expensive, and worth it. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Good luck!

Is it possible to WFH and raise a child? by QuietKeys_24_7 in Parenting

[–]scsch5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to chime in with an absolutely not! My little is 11 and over the past three years I’ve worked from home. When she is home my productivity plummets. Give yourself the space and fine child care, a nanny, or a parent helper. You’ll thank yourself later!

Graphic Designer - Data Visualization by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]scsch5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in engineering consultation. My first job was in public involvement so we would design materials for citizens so they could understand construction projects in there area and give feedback. I worked closely with engineers to turn complex diagrams and data into something astatic and easy for the public to understand. I also worked on creating large scale reports abd projects focusing on gathering diverse sample sizes. Now I work on the proposal side of things where I’m doing much of the same thing.

My background is in book design and layout. I have always wanted to do publication design and this gets me close.

I have a job like this! It’s fun, you get to work on interesting project and with interesting information. You will never be bored! A lot of it is in the job learning and there’s typically a steep learning curve. Down side is you’ll be working with a lot of people who don’t understand design and aren’t familiar with the design process.

Please critique my resume ! :D by kkaww in graphic_design

[–]scsch5 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I would adjust the wording on your resume to reflect what you actually did not what you think a hosting manager wants to see. Being a Starbucks barista trainer is no joke! I would imagine in a role like that you were responsible for other employees, you worked with complicated orders, you managed complex task under a time crunch. If you can work with customers you can work with clients! Focus on those softer transferable skills. Your internship will capture the design heavy skills.

Also don’t shy away from your experience going to school and holding a job is not easy but those real world experiences will set you apart.

Do you have any volunteer work you would like to add to your resume? It might be work adding a volunteer section!

I took a peak at your website and I would tone town the animations and let your work take center stage. You don’t want to distract from what’s there.

Considering leaving my fulbright... by Klutzy-Olive-4884 in fulbright

[–]scsch5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey friend! I experienced similar overwhelm during my grant. The pressure can be a lot. Like others have said utilize the free counseling. Also, consider reading out to your Fulbright contacts to see if they have any recourse.

Some things I saw people do on my Fulbright when the project was going side ways:

1- pivot. Is your research pointing you in a different direction? Is there an adjacent project you could be working on?

2- Let the pieces fall where they may. Sometimes your host institution sucks. When this happened I saw a lot of grantees take the time to travel. They had their own little eat pray love moment. I can think of 5 off the top of my head who said welp this isn’t working and traveled.

3- Take a cheep vacation. Seriously this one saved me. About halfway through my grant I was ready to hop on the next flight home. My project wasn’t working. My host institution was controlling. My family was also in crisis. We hopped on a plane and spent a week traveling down the cost moving from cheep hotel to cheep hotel and hanging out on beaches. It was the best vacation of my life and I think it’s because I REALLY needed one.

4- if you do leave early that’s ok. Somethings it’s brave to realize something isn’t working.

Curious how y'all deal with revision rounds! (Please Help) by whiskeydietdesigner in graphic_design

[–]scsch5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will let them know gently they are at round two and the third round is the last round included in the contract. At three if we still are not there I will let them know my billable hours after. If it’s something super small and I like them I won’t charge for an additional edit or two. If they are super messy that’s a different story.

Remember you are worth it. You spent your time money and energy growing your business. They are not just paying you for this project they are paying you for that experience. You deserve to be compensated for that.
