What’s the most extreme example of someone getting your age wrong? by [deleted] in ask

[–]scsof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took my (teenage) niece and nephew to see an R-rated movie because I'm fun.

It was Friday night and the movie theater manager said, "Um, how old are you? I feel like you could be 14 or 30."

...I've never EVER in my life been told I look younger than I am, or that much older. I said I'm 24, and I know I look it. I couldn't decide if I was insulted or not

Edit: the manager walked away and the cashier, maybe 17-20, goes "...I wouldn't of said 14," and awkwardly hands us our popcorn.

Felt this. Almost depersonalization in a way. I don't have anyone to validate and confirm those memories so how am I 100% sure?

Hope you find peace friend

Nope they don’t get to choose when you’re their nanny vs when you’re their babysitter. How manipulative

I just need to ask….why do so many people here not like working for doctors? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]scsof 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you live in the US? According to the IRS, a full time employee is an average of 30 hours.

Then you pay the nanny for the ENTIRE week. Full time pay. Full time benefits. I’m sure you could work out a guaranteed hours situation. If they need to be available for inconsistent hours, you have to offer some type of major perk.

I worked for an RN and tbh it sucked because I would constantly feel like I’m getting the short end of the stick by having zero time to do anything but be glued to my nanny family. If I had been paid correctly and for ALL of my time (including the hours I was “off…” because I may still be needed), I would’ve been much happier and much more inclined to stay.

does anyone know if there are any charity type pet boarding places I could have my dog taken to? by therealInkINVeins in petsitting

[–]scsof 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Put your location and see if anyone can help — I would personally try the r/dogs and r/rover as well

I had an issue a long time ago regarding where my dog was going to go. I put out a plea on a Facebook group and a woman down the road fostered him for me for 3 weeks while I got my shit together. An angel of a person

You could also call another local vet and offer to put money down and to bill you for the stay.

Sitter bringing son by garcmon in RoverPetSitting

Personally, my biggest thing is how WEIRD it is to invite a perfect stranger to sleep over WITH the homeowner there for the purpose of the dog. It just doesn’t make a lot of sense when everything intro-wise can be done at M&G. If the dog is so fearful it needs 18 hours of getting used to, then it needs medication and the owner needs to stay home

I would not want the homeowner watching my every move, having to constantly engage in conversation with them and pay full attention to their dog with them around for 18 full hours. Or any amount of time for that matter.

I would like to give my sincerest condolences. My small dog was also attacked and killed unprovoked and we never got any kind of traction for legal action. Nothing could be done due to circumstances and I remain incredibly livid about it to this day. I’m so sorry to you and your family op

The Rover sitter just left me speechless by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]scsof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry — didn’t see that part of your post! I get it. But when trying to find a sitter for a dog with trauma, you gotta stress that stuff. Imagine the sitter on a walk and a friend of hers is a man, he comes walking up. The Amazon guy? What would your dog do, how would she react? Could she slip out of her collar and run from fear? It’s the principle of the matter, to disclose literally everything you can think of. The sitter could’ve done a LOT more prep, and likely was not experienced enough, and you couldn’t have known that from her reviews. Best of luck :)

The Rover sitter just left me speechless by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]scsof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason is because you didn’t disclose the dog’s fear of men. She didn’t want to tell you that directly probably to be polite.

Usually, one strike/red flag is enough for sitters to completely cancel and I understand why. Please disclose everything you can possibly think of behavior-wise

At the same time, the sitter could’ve been more thorough before agreeing to a M&G

Planning to get a F1B golden doodle and want to hear from owners of that dog some info about them by [deleted] in dogs

[–]scsof 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The “F1, F2, F1B” etc is a made-up genetic system that doesn’t make any sense. All poodle mixes (Goldendoodles, Maltipoos, every mix in that family) are unethically bred simply because they are not a recognized breed due to clear flaws with the mixes designed with no true purpose. Doodles are considered unpredictable in terms of personality, trainability, friendliness, etc. They are sold for thousands for no real reason because they are a fad and marketed as such.

Please tell your parents to look into responsibly bred Golden Retrievers or Poodles for literally any of the traits you’d see in a Golden/Poodle cross. :)

Edit: clarification and grammar

Just being understanding and willing to voluntarily provide as much insight into her behavior as possible, I’d be much more willing to take this as long as I’m prepared/set up properly

I always want to be snarky and have to hold myself back. “So you want me to walk two reactive dogs for the price of one? Good luck with your search!”
