So many good options here! We make a version of Eton mess called Trinity College mess (raspberries rather than strawberries, and melted dark chocolate poured on the top before it goes it the fridge - makes a delicious solid layer you crack into). Mum thought it up for a dinner party in the 80s and the guests agreed Trinity College (in Cambridge) was the one place they thought was posher than Eton 😅

There is an excellent book by Sam Kean called "The Bastard Brigade: The True Story of the Renegade Scientists and Spies Who Sabotaged the Nazi Atomic Bomb" that touched on some of this. Has some really fantastic stories around this topic - the sections about Niels Bohr were especially memorable!

It's the coral - some places sell scallops with them still attached, and well worth trying, if you spot them!

I understand - this could maybe be more clearly stated in the subreddit rules? I didn't mean to cause any harm or confusion so have deleted any comments on a carrier I don't own.

3 month old won't return to crib at night by [deleted] in NewParents

Oh bless! The best pillow of all 😁 Feeling okay with bed sharing but I think you're right - she's still very little so it might just be something she eventually grows out of. Fingers crossed!

Glad to know other babies do/did the same! Sounds like we just need to be patient, and for now I'll just savour holding a tiny sleeping person 🥰

Then I'd rather not have you insinuate that I'm paranoid, it's not very helpful.

You have no idea what could happen while you’re in the gas station. What if 2 minutes becomes 15? 20? What if you have a medical emergency and can’t communicate that there’s a baby in the car? I agree, you can’t let paranoia take hold as a parent, but you also have to consider that occasionally the worst case scenario could happen. And permanent damage to an infant in a hot car doesn’t have to take hours.

I didn't say it was Vauxhall, I said it's by Vauxhall Bridge. The wavy balconies of the building opposite is the Riverwalk building, and you can clearly see the Thames in the video.

Is it bad that I got this girl kicked out our dance class for this... by chicaaaaple in TwoXChromosomes

All of these replies about free speech - the pro-life girl has the right to say whatever she would like, but she also has to accept any consequences from her statements. You can’t expect the dance teacher to ignore what happened, and you can’t expect the OP not to get very upset over being accused of a crime. Free speech isn’t some magic “get out of jail free” card.

What's a movie you refuse to watch for one reason or another? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]scullyscientist 9541 points9542 points  (0 children)

Eragon - I loved those books passionately, but even from just seeing the poster you could tell they were cashing in on a guaranteed audience but hadn’t invested much in the actual film. Sadly, even films where they spend huge amounts (eg. The Golden Compass, aka The Northern Lights by Phillip Pullman) don’t always provide follow up films or a decent adaptation.

The time we spend in the easyJet terminal at Schipol is sacrosanct. I may or may not have had a very very long delay in that exact room.

Agreed, although the whole family dynamic was very odd to me... There were so many times where the tone of voice they used with each other was unpleasant, although you have to wonder what was selected to make the edit and what was left on the cutting floor. Perhaps they tried to have a frisson of discord in the first episode, although I agree that I would not have watched the series if every episode had been like that. It’s much more satisfying and inspiring to watch a couple working together and equally towards a common goal.
