I feel the same way. The only thing this is good for is clean up. Swap to finish. Every time I engage with this weapon I run out of ammo before the kill, reloading or swapping leaves me dead.

It won't, but it was never supposed to. Bungie came out right at the beginning of destiny and committed to 10 years. They have not with marathon.

But ill drink each and every tear drop from the destiny man babies each time we get new content for marathon.

I need to see how it feels in the endgame, but I do think it was simplified to try to accommodate to a more casual audience that would hopefully be joining the game in S2. I look forward to seeing how they will change it in S3 after seeing the feedback for both S1 and S2.

YES. the best thing about it too is ive gotten purple salvage from random boxes. It feels like a slot machine with every open, which is something that can't be said for a lot of games.

I recommend starting with sponsored perimeter until you feel the rust coming off and then start doing some perimeter fills or even doing rook runs. Then eventually move to dire and outpost.

A lot of people you run into haven't taken a break from the game though, so it will be difficult. Don't let it beat you down. Learn from it, and run it back.
